Vancouver, WA did the biggest upzone / deregulation possibly in the entire nation and not enough people are talking about it. And this all came from City staff - they didn’t have community advocates demanding this for years!
A chart showing the zoning districts with minimum density and maximum height that have been in effect since July 1, 2025. In the “low scale” zone, the lowest density other than manufactured home parks, the minimum density is 8 du/ac and the max height is three floors (45 feet). Vancouver, WA’s new zoning map, which has just 10 zones. The four comprehensive plan designations and ten zones in Vancouver. The four comp plan designations are residential neighborhoods, urban mixed use, employment and industry, and green space.

Clean air in schools reduces infections for the WHOLE POPULATION. Why WOULDN’T we clean the air? The healthcare/missed work costs far exceed the infrastructure costs, don’t let them get away with “it costs too much”. Demand clean air in schools and workplaces!

I'm not a person who enjoys the fairway, but I go every couple of years to enjoy the ag displays, cheer on the 4H/FFA kids showing livestock, and find an interesting new fried thing. If you like Americana, the crafts building may be particularly for you.

Today I'm planning to test out Tanyard Branch/Bolin Cr Trail. I need to get from Carrboro to Flyleaf books and back & not eager to take my chances on MLK. The bike would make the hill no issue but not interested in a sharrow where traffic averages 2x my speed.

Biggest gaps I encountered yesterday on my groceries & burritos run: Hwy 54/Main St Downtown Carrboro's Main/Weaver/Greensboro blob Franklin/Columbia All places where perfectly good bike lane suddenly vanishes. Cyclist must either walk in the pedestrian infrastructure or take chances playing car.

C. Fray @cfrayforcarrboro.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
Most local drivers are polite/cautious about a big e-bike using car etiquette (I have blinky turn signals and everything!). But it's the distracted ones that pose the biggest risk since they may not have "seen" me at all. IMO, large intersections where bike lanes suddenly disappear are the worst.

C. Fray @cfrayforcarrboro.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
Because bike infrastructure is patchy I have to switch mentally between being a bike, a "car", and a pedestrian, which is.... interesting. Pretending to be a car not so bad, have to make myself appear larger to intimidate rival cars. 😉 Places where I have to go from "car" to ped or v.v. 😬

Initial e-bike reflections: - 3 trips replaced so far - Biggest wins for the e-bike are enough acceleration to get through an intersection & not feeling like I'm dying on hills - Not needing Class 2 at all, but definitely could use some kind of saddlebag setup. Still got the groceries home!

It is breathtaking. Like many things these days it is hard, but necessary, to figure what is a continuity and what is a rupture. EdTech has always been a private sector parasite feeding off the public sector. The rupture is AI EdTech is experimenting on the rich instead of the poor.

NC Folks, these constitutional questions on the ballot might seem reasonable, but each one will be enacted by wildly partisan legislation drawn up by a corrupt General Assembly cemented in place through decades of gerrymandering. It’s a trap. Don’t do it.

I understand people are thinking about students when they promote these kinds of rules. But there is nothing in the rule that limits it to students, because that would be easy to challenge legally. Instead the law forbids "unrelated" persons. 3/n

This is good and true.
The left does not need to pursue its own exoneration in this moment. There is no reason to indulge the fantasy that we governed the nation during these recent, disastrous years, or that our country's brief flirtation with racial justice was an unthinkable disaster with countless innocent victims. Are we, the left, messy as hell? Absolutely. Do I get sick of our shit sometimes? You bet. But our politics are not the politics that have detached this country from reality, or normalized increasingly inhuman policies.
