Contrary to their public statement, HOPE not hate can exclusively reveal that Kent Police were tipped off about the Patriot Platform mobilisation – and seemingly did not act on the information.

Deplatforming people works. There have always been American Nazis. But they used to be marginal people, despised in our public discourse. But then the way American Nazis had been treated for decades on end suddenly became "cancel culture." And now our public discourse is filled with Nazis.

Interesting point in this v good Rafael Behr piece on Nigel Farage - his unwillingness to openly condemn Rupert Lowe and Restore as extreme racists suggests a lack of confidence in Reform UK's core vote. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...
Restore took almost 9% of the vote in the first round of the Manchester mayoral byelection, ahead of the Tories and Liberal Democrats. Lowe, elected to parliament in 2024 as a Reform MP, has offered to form an alliance with his old party, but with conditions attached, including the insistence that Tory defectors be barred from any future role in government.

A less-rattled Farage would heap derision on his former comrade. He might even have exploited the schism to confect a new boundary between “mainstream” and “far” right. He could highlight tonal differences between his and Lowe’s politics and apply them as camouflage of respectability.

That he doesn’t suggests lack of confidence in the loyalty of Reform’s hardcore vote. More disturbingly, it implies openness to the idea that, where immigration is concerned, British politics is not yet maxed-out at the furthest limits of rightward expansion.

I think my most capital C Conservative position is that 'edtech' is almost always an expensive con that distracts us from what we know works best in education and that there really is absolutely no harm in a classroom looking broadly the same as it did 20 years ago most of the time.

do think one of the big problems of the era is that a lot of mainstream politicians have forgotten that you just can't convince everyone; the point of successful electoral politics is to convince the people you can convince and to *defeat the rest*

It's not hyperbole in the least to say Musk purchased a six-month shadow presidency for $280 million and used the power of that shadow presidency to 1. Steal the government’s data, 2. Permanently damage the state’s ability to regulate his businesses, and 3, kill non-white people.

I’ve long wondered whether many Labour bigwigs are moved by identity more than strategy. They regard Labour as “fundamentally”/“existentially” working class—and white, like their grandparents—and would rather lose appealing to that identity than win with a middle-class, socially liberal coalition.

Farage and the far right in general come from a grievance culture. If you do what they want, even maximally – Brexit – they’ll move the goalposts and keep moaning. If you engage seriously with their concerns, they’ll find new ones. You will never satisfy them, because they don’t want to be satisfied
