Just tax the compute. Datacentre? Cool. Fund your own power generation and water reservoirs, and then pay tax for every computational act your datacentre does. And we'll use the tax income to offset societal and job damage. Overnight, AI becomes something AI giants are desperate to restrict.

I do wish they'd get an editor to review their speeches. What does "wins in the AI revolution" mean? A revolution to remove/overturn what? Who is revolting? A win over who? What does this win look like? You're the fucking Chancellor – use your words properly. Your speech should make sense.

Increasingly concerned re: people offloading vital cognitive processes by using GIF replies. Expressing snark with words is a core part of being human, don't let some GIF picker widget a startup preloaded with clips of mid range TV shows take that from you!

Claude making a scientific discovery
Black-and-white three-part comic. In the first scene, one simple cartoon figure holds out a small round handmade-looking object and says, “I MADE THIS.” Another figure replies, “YOU MADE THIS?” In the second scene, the second figure is shown alone holding the object. In the final scene, that figure holds it proudly and says, “I MADE THIS”

They think it's a game. They think it's easy. That they'll stroll in and discover millions of ££ are being spent on rainbows (or sumfing) and "save the day". Instead, they discover it's a difficult, often thankless, job: managing vital community services without sufficient funding. So they quit.

This could be the defining photo of trump's presidency: Melania's misery. The mix of misery and confused fury on trump's face as he wonders in, having forgotten his guests. The contempt on Xi's face is visceral, while his wife patiently waits for this horror to end. As do we all. (with Alt text)
We're looking through a doorway, out onto a balcony. Left to right: a uniformed soldier gestures for Melania, Trump, Xi and his wife to come inside, toward the camera.

Melania is dressed for a funeral with a face to match. She stares at trump. She could be in pain. Trump is walking ahead of the group. His back to the others, has he forgotten they are there? He is staring at the camera as though he's trying to remember the names of all the boys who flushed his head down the toilet at school. Xi is watching trump leave. He looks resigned, contemptous, and bored. His head is tilted to one side as if to say "oh god, what now". Mrs Xi looks toward her husband, her expression is blank and diplomatic. She is waiting to leave.

Why aren't newspapers - even the supposedly conscientious, well-meaning one - encouraging people to see this? It's absolutely vital. Stop giving Farage and other hateful trolls space on your pages. Write about something positive. Use the small influence you still have and be part of the change.
