Did the 9 anime thing. Tried to come up with 9 anime that got me into a genre or creator. And in the case of Noir, a composer.

Spirited Away
Paprika
Metropolis
Cardcaptor Sakura
Symphogear
Lucky Star
Noir
Cyborg 009
Mawaru Penguindrum

Discworld QOTD, from Wintersmith

It was lonely on the hill, and cold. And all you could do was keep going. You could scream, cry, and stamp your feet, but apart from making you feel warmer, it wouldn’t do any good. You could say it was unfair, and that was true, but the universe didn’t care because it didn’t know what “fair” meant. That was the big problem about being a witch. It was up to you. It was always up to you.

Discworld QOTD, from Sourcery

Discworld meme. On the left is Death, a skeleton with glowing blue eye sockets wearing a black robe. Death is petting a small kitten.

On the right is the text of the quote.

“I meant,” said Ipslore bitterly, “what is there in this world that truly makes living worthwhile?’

Death thought about it.

CATS, he said eventually. CATS ARE NICE.

The recent discussion around the inspiration that Ocarina of Time remake takes from ningyōgeki is interesting because, regardless of whether this interpretation is true or not, it turned the spotlight on an art form that is rarely discussed despite its importance in Japan’s AV media.

mari and lara from goodbye lara kissing. grace is in gon-chan form at the side and saying "Finally."

the next panel, where lara excitedly asks mari "What colour do you think our baby will be?", to which mari says "WHAT?"

lara continues, "You know, when you find your true love and babies start coming out of clam shells", beside her is a drawing of a hypothetical mermaid baby that looks like mari in a clam shell

mari stares at lara in disbelief, who says "Did your parents not tell you this yet?? Oh No!!"

Today in #GhibliSpotlight, let's return to the Ghibli Museum and look at another two of the museum's exclusive short films. This time it's a tasty pair released in 2010: A Sumo Wrestler's Tail (ちゅうずもう) and Mr Dough and the Egg Princess (パン種とタマゴ姫)! 🧵 [1/9]

Two mice ready themselves for a sumo bout in front of a frog referee, above the Japanese title for A Sumo Wrestler's Tail

Mice chomp cartoonishly on pieces of bread with fish inside

Hand in hand, Mr Dough and the Egg Princess pass by surprised rabbits harvesting wheat

Surrounded by picked bones and apple cores, the witch greedily eats fried eggs directly from an overflowing pan

Kanji contain many different strokes. This chart I made shows these various strokes with their Japanese names (and my English translations) by using an aggregate glyph. Many foundries have their own variants of the glyph. An updated chart from my old fonts in games microblog, Fontendo, on Twitter.

A chart showing the many different strokes to be found in kanji, with labels showing their Japanese names alongside English translations.

Happy birthday, Devil May Cry! Released in Japan 25 years ago today. I played the OG PS2 version through for the first time just last year and yeah, had a great time with it. From what I've read, started off in development as Resi 4 and then was made its own game as it was just too different.

Been awhile since I joined in #RandomGameSaturday. Today something from my PSP shelves: Blazblue Portable. Played this on the Thalys once and the conductor asked what I was doing. Told him I was trying to beat arcade mode. He asked me if I'd won when he passed again later. 😁

PSP game Blazblue Calamity Trigger Portable. Featuring our main protagonists: guy in red with big sword, skinny blue bishonen with long thin sword, blonde girl in mini dress with open back holding twin guns and mysterious silver haired woman with eyepatch.

been having more proton-shaped compatibility issues with my eroge in recent days so I went poking around and 😩 GE is the version that has all the annoyingly licensed video decoders and shit that valve can't include by default built in so it makes working with archaic porn games a lot simpler but 😩

GE-Proton11-1 Released
@GloriousEggroll GloriousEggroll released this Jun 24
GE-Proton11-1
fd07a03

The long awaited video rework and Proton 11 rebase is finally done! GE-Proton11-1 is now available!

Q. How did I "fix" it?

A. As many of you know, the last GE-Proton release was in March. It is now June. That is a 4 month gap, which is most definitely not the norm for GE Releases. Why is that? It's because I spent the last 4 months converting the quartz->gstreamer path to instead use quartz->winedmo->ffmpeg, and completely gutted all gstreamer libraries from the proton build.

Yes, I used AI for this work. No, it likely unfortunately will not be able to be upstreamed because CodeWeavers policy does not accept AI generated code. You might be asking "how the hell did you use AI for this?" -- the same way I would without it, the only difference is AI was used to compare code logic when things were failing or incorrect. So how does that work?
