Could this be the only unmade anime with a chance of ever coming back from the grave? Despera was a very promising anime that generated a lot of interest back then, but its production was repeatedly delayed until circumstances eventually forced its cancellation... sort of?

We often forget that there's Japanese animation beyond cels and CGI and that there are figures as interesting as Fusako Yusaki, who not only pursued a career as an indie animator, but did so successfully in another country, Italy.

I thought the snot bubble moved from Japanese animation (where it appears in the 1930s) to Japanese comics pretty late, but I came across it in this series from 1952, so it's been part of the manga repertoire at least since then. (Also saw it in a different serial from 1953.)

Kamui Fujiwara recently explained that the box art for the SFC version of 46 Okunen Monogatari (EVO: The search for Eden) was never returned to him and that he has been unable to trace it. The same applies to the cover art he drew for a Zelda novel. x.com/kamuif/statu...

The recent discussion around the inspiration that Ocarina of Time remake takes from ningyōgeki is interesting because, regardless of whether this interpretation is true or not, it turned the spotlight on an art form that is rarely discussed despite its importance in Japan’s AV media.

this is a really good question. In his commentary, Dezaki has called them 記念写真 - souvenir pictures. But you also frequently see them called "harmony" - Masao Maruyama uses this term in his interview on the Black Jack OVA blu-ray. They are similar, but not necessarily identical.

Sakamoto's artistic talent led him to serve as a public relations officer in the Youth Volunteer Corps during the Manchuria and Mongolian development project. After the war, his outlook on life changed dramatically and he reverted to his real name, Mashiro Sakamoto, and became absorbed in Zen.

Scanned for my personal and general research, Manga no Mushi was run by Osamu Tezuka himself and often served as a survey work on manga theory, mangaka and his own work in reflection, mainly manuscripts from his early days pre-mass fame. This particular issue focuses on the works and lives of the mangakas Keiko Takemiya, Yoshiko Tsuchida, Eiko Mizuno, Moto Hagio and Maki Sato.

Sayoko and Renzō Kinoshita were two of the most important independent animators of the 1970s. In 1985, they organized the first Hiroshima International Animation Festival after long years of tireless work hoping that would become a meaningful way to help the city recover.
