I always wish we would make more time for those conversations. Most students agreed they shouldn't use that language. Most said that they would intervene if they saw something. But few would be willing to teach peers, to have hard conversations or challenge them. We need more bravery from men.

Most would still chuckle. Then I'd ask if they'd be willing to use those terms about their loved ones. Awkward silence. Then we'd go through the data on how many men committed violent acts. And they would get looks of panic that they might be implicated.

When I taught at an all-boys prep school, we'd do an activity where I had them list every sexual term they could think of. They'd often laugh, as many were absurd things meant for Urban Dictionary. We'd then go through how many terms were violent (~85%) and how many were male-dominant (~90%).

1. Don't put drugs in people's drinks.
2. Use the buddy system! If you can't stop yourself from sexually assaulting someone, ask a trusted friend to accompany you at all times to stop you.
3. When you come across someone who is drunk or asleep, the best thing to do is not rape them.
4. When you see a woman walking by herself, leave her alone.
5. If you are in a lift and someone steps in, remember not to sexually assault them.
6. Carry a whistle. If you think you might rape someone, blow the whistle until someone comes to stop you.

In some ways, having the pomp & circumstance around a pitcher's last game is easier than a position player's. Like, they can say to pitchers, "we all know this will be the last start/appearance of your career" & plan a ceremony around it. But position players tend to sign a "1-day contract" later.
