Wow, no way! I just installed the @atpassport.net Firefox extension and managed to log into a website using FedCM in Firefox using my own PDS. This is insane, I had no idea this was possible at all, and gives a whole opportunity for us to implement FedCM in Firefox (and maybe even Safari?).

Wonder how lively activity is on #WSocial compared to #Eurosky? Thanks to @pds.ls you can plug into the live firehose for the two networks. After 32 minutes of observation this morning, @wsocial.eu had 330 events whereas @eurosky.social had 16 THOUSAND. The beauty of open data 💫 #WSocialFacts

So I want to move away from Digital Ocean due to their sponsorship of DHH. I've looked at Hetzner in the past but been put off by their reputation for arbitrarily terminating accounts with no warning and no recourse. Does anyone have experience with them? Any other recommendations?

Happy to see @wsocial.eu making this move. I may disagree with a lot of what they do, but this is a big step in the right direction, especially as their tool supports outward migrations too. I'm also pleased to see the "give me a recovery key" option. Every PDS should have this on sign-up too.

Short version: the projects themselves haven't made me a cent (it did cost some cents and. a lot of time 😅) Sifa has no paying users, no revenue, nothing set up today to change that in the short term.

I'm passionately against AI slop. I also use LLMs constantly to make tools and workflows art. To me, there is no contradiction because 'using AI' isn't one activity. Writing a prompt and building tools are different acts, with a fundamentally different relationship to conceptualisation and creation.

Very much not criticising Padding here, this is totally understandable, but it really shows the limitations the Atmosphere still has in terms of decentralised scaling. Would the network survive Bluesky PBC shutting down their infrastructure? I don't think so.

Every user on every PDS should set their own rotation keys. Otherwise if your PDS loses your data, shuts down, or becomes evil you lose your identity. If you have your own rotation keys, you can get it back without their cooperation. pdsmoover.com is the easiest way to do this.

@gandersocial.ca have been publicly quiet on this topic, but I just came across an interesting and positive reply to a question by their founder:

Question by a Gander user:
"Since Gander is connected to Bluesky, right? Is there a way to consolidate your Bluesky and Gander account?"

Answer by Ben Waldman, founder of Gander:
"That is the idea!

Gander operates on the same protocol. We’ve added some of our goodies, but kept the base so users can (soon) choose just how broad their experience goes, and ultimately connect with folks all over the world.

In fact we’re working with Eurosky on some stuff right now. Mostly information sharing, but we love those guys.

Soon enough we’ll have full interoperability, with the idea being you’ll be able to migrate over to Gander and keep your following, content, etc. and do an account merge (we’re all biting our nails over that one).

From there, it will get a little interesting. Like venturing out into uncharted waters. Since we can’t moderate the whole ATmoshphere firehose, we’ll rely on Bluesky labelers, while moderating content coming from Gander.

We suspect it will be a bit of an evolution. We learned in week 1 of beta that the raw firehose is… spicy."

What on earth is happening?

This had become the new normal. RNLI crew members had been forced to take their permits off their cars after their tyres have been repeatedly slashed. Most of them have been pilloried at the school gates or turned away from local pubs. One man who worked in search and rescue had been beaten unconscious and hospitalised, recognised for TV interviews he had done.
