The lie here is suggesting that "9% of @bsky.app users are active daily" is the same measurement as "9% of @wsocial.eu users have ever posted more than once". #Wsocial 's actual DAU is less than 1%. This is how propaganda works. Tell little lies often enough and eventually it sounds like truth.

Yeah generally I think reclaiming handles or subdomains has more downsides than upsides (that said I have also benefited from reclaimed handles so idk)

I can also see it being unexpected in the other direction for people who didn't know their stuff was stored on their PDS though. Difficult to solve other than by educating users.

It's an interesting question but surely if you deactivate your PDS account it should affect everything you have on the PDS? I'd find it pretty annoying and unexpected to have to go around different sites deactivating things that were supposed to be stored on my PDS anyway.

We're not talking about PDSes, we're talking about the PLC Directory which is centralized. Afaict the mitigation against foul play is that it could plausibly be replaced by an alternative mirror. I'm not convinced that would ever happen in the case of a few individual accounts being taken down.

Fair enough I guess! But for me it has the opposite effect: I very rarely join a project's Discord community unless I need something and have absolutely no alternative. I don't think I've signed into Discord in a couple of years.

While I'm spouting hot takes: (a) it will never cease to piss me off that the USA takes exclusive use of gTLDs like .gov for their national goverment (b) gov.uk / gov.pt etc are simply better names than america.gov (c) there is no country called America anyway 🤷

I did wonder how long until he came after you for the "successor to WordPress" marketing. But yeah, f that guy. I've been lazy but still planning to migrate everything off WordPress (maybe to EmDash) just because he is such a prick. (And I say this as someone who contributed to WP in the past)

Maybe a silly question but how is the organisation / the directory protected against pressure from rogue governments (like what happened to A/I)? In the event of pressure from the US, could they be forced to take down individual accounts? If they refused could the whole directory be taken down?
