I do think anti-car activists (who're right) wilfully ignore how much of a benefit cars provide. They're pretty great so we have to give people strong incentives to stop using them. But man, car owners who think they're rugged individualists for liking those benefits are just clowns.

You’re allowed one day of celebrating that the democrats did something reasonably intelligent then you have to get back to bullying and public shaming so they don’t get complacent

Calling right-wingers weird is effective because they have spent the last... who knows how long... trying to be what they consider society's standard of "normal/traditional." It's the same reason dudes who consider themselves "one of the good guys" flip their lids when you call them creepy.

So much about our current political state can be explained by the fact that political reporters simply refuse to believe Republicans want to achieve their express policy goals
From Sahil Kapur: "The debate around a “national abortion ban” needs to include a key nuance. There’s zero chance Congress fully outlaws abortion. The open question is federal restrictions that override states — like 20 or 15 weeks — which Republicans routinely attempt when they have majorities."

So many liberals are going to look at elected officials who they support applauding a genocidaire and not re-evaluate their support but instead contort themselves in knots explaining why this is actually a savvy and good thing and opposing them doing it means you want a unicorn.

If we're being serious here the first thing Kamala needs to do with this groundswell of liberal and moderate enthusiasm is to tamp it down and tack hard right on everything to court the votes of the people who hate her already and would never vote for her in a thousand years.

Here’s my thing, the right got free rein in the UK, Brexit happened, material conditions degraded to the point people are physically smaller now. And none of this spurred an ascendant leftist politics. Centrists in Labour accrued the benefit and are enacting conservative policies

Even putting aside how ghoulish this is, the proportion of people with step parents, children, or siblings that they love has got to be at least like 25%. This guy is a generational talent at alienating voters.

I think Kamala Harris is a bad person and I also think she talks funny in a way I really enjoy and I will also vote for her for president of the United States. love her as a meme don't love her as a politician, and am trapped in a political system where this is just how it works I guess.

There is a small but vocal group of people who got a permanent groove worn into their brains by 2016 Bernie supporters being really good at making fun of people. This is why you see so many preemptive complaints about how the left is going to treat Harris.

Electric cars don't represent a meaningful solution to climate change, car centric planning, road safety, or congestion. But they are the most effective tool we have to stop people from voting based on gas prices and for that we should fight for universal adoption.

At work one coworker is convinced that the Russian military was behind the assassination attempt, and another who thought it was the CIA because Trump is anti-war. This is your reminder that most people lack a coherent ideology and hold an incomprehensible set of disconnected beliefs.

Republican president was shot by a Republican because of an environment of normalized violence that Republicans insist we all live in, and somehow this means that both sides need to tone it all the way down, which in practice means that Democrats and only Democratic need to stop talking entirely.

Maybe the lesson here is that the people who built a political movement out of the vigilante revenge fantasies of socially maladjusted and heavily armed people overestimated their own ability to control where, when, and at whom the violence they encourage would be directed.

Every generator on the power grid is rotating in synchrony with on another. Mechanical stability is provided by the inertia of tens of thousands of synced up rotors. The Synchronous Grid of Continental Europe is the largest in the world and extends from Turkey to Portugal and most places in between.
