The denaturalization push against Ilhan Omar is so much worse than even previous abuses of federal authority and investigative power. It’s not just that it’s a targeted investigation, but that it’s an effort to achieve something that could NEVER possibly be legitimate.

"Vance used a gun to force the teller to hand over all the $$$, an action some criticized as a bank robbery." It's dire that NYT can't clearly identify the plain meaning of events and utterances. Everything is an unproven mystery. Nothing is certain. Who's to say if a rising sun signals morning?

Discworld QOTD, from Small Gods
The Ephebians believed that every man should have the vote (provided that he wasn't poor, foreign, nor disqualified by reason of being mad, frivolous, or a woman). Every five years someone was elected to be Tyrant, provided he could prove that he was honest, intelligent, sensible, and trustworthy. Immediately after he was elected, of course, it was obvious to everyone that he was a criminal madman and totally out of touch with the view of the ordinary philosopher in the street looking for a towel. And then five years later they elected another one just like him, and really it was amazing how intelligent people kept on making the same mistakes.

I'll just point out once more: the Republican case to voters, today and for the last 50 years or so, relies on lies & falsehoods. If you could snap your fingers and force everyone to speak only the truth, Republicans would never win a national majority again. The lies are central & load-bearing.

That $366 million Elon is spending to try and convince voters that Congress should stay Republican? It's more money than McCain's 2008 campaign spent. But it's also, relative to Musk's net worth, the same as a household at the median income spending $32.

Elon Musk has spent $366 million this election cycle. Philip Bump examines what that kind of money can buy in American politics.

Is giving up 29+ points in 80% of your games bad? It’s weird to feel this bad about a 3-1 Josh Allen team…

So we fired McDermott because he was a bad coach. And now we give up 30 points basically every game. The bend but don’t break defense wasn’t fun but it was certainly better than the bend and break defense we have now…

The Sega Genesis was my first gaming console, so when I took my son to the Lego store and saw they had a Genesis set, I had to buy it (he got a Bluey set with Bluey and Rusty). I love that the game was Sonic 2, as that had a LOT of playtime for me back then, and that there’s a Sonic hidden inside.
Image of Sonic hidden inside the consoleThe compete set, which looks like a small Sega console with two controllers. It has a Sonic 2 cartridge in it. You can easily remove the top to see the Sonic image underneath. Pretending to play it with my son while watching a YouTube video of someone beating Sonic 2. The video is showing Sky Chase Zone with Sonic standing on top of a plane piloted by Tails.

Political violence is a serious issue. But it’s not a “both sides” issue. The leaders of the Democratic Party do not call for violence, do not elevate violent supporters, do not pardon violent thugs who attack our seat of government and our elections. America is under threat from the right.

Also it’s time for the news to stop treating this administration’s racist war against Somalis as “Trump being Trump.” They targeted Minneapolis because they hate an ethnic group here, and now they’re targeting the most prominent political figure in that group with thinly rationalized state violence.

Every word of this from @drewmagary.bsky.social. Democrats will likely retake Congress, but what they do next is an open question. That's why it's important for us all to press Democrats -- right now -- to commit to an aggressive agenda of oversight and accountability.
As desperate as Republicans are to hold onto power, the Democratic establishment is even more rattled. An oil slick like Schumer sees his GOP chums on the other side of the aisle get marginalized by an interloper (Trump), and now fears a similar interloper on his side doing likewise. The Schumers of the DNC fear the likes of Zohran Mamdani and AOC (even as she's gone about sanding down her politics over the last eight years) far more than they fear Trump. So if they wrest control of Congress a month from now, their priority won’t be to reform a brazenly corrupt Supreme Court, or to punish Trump and his many accomplices for their endless crimes, or to finally cut off aid to Israel, or even to force an end to that shitty war in Iran. All they’ll do is sit on their candy asses and wait around for the next election. Then they’ll tell you the best way, the most responsible way, to express your anger at their indifference is to continue voting for them.

Low-hanging fruit for reporters and Dem trackers: ask a Republican running for office, "what would you do if you were in a car with your child and men in hoodies charged at you with guns drawn?" Follow up with "do you think it's reasonable for a parent in that situation to use lethal force?"

It's already illegal. Congress banned it near-unanimously in 2022. That law allows the ban to be lifted only if Russia withdraws from Ukraine. He's simply breaking the law that's already on the books.

STORMY NOT SOPHISTICATED ICE HOG, BUT EVEN STORMY KNOW:
THE ALLOWANCE OF FOREIGN INVESTORS IN METRO VANCOUVER MUST NOT ONLY BE MET WITH STEEP ANNUAL LEVIES IF PROPERTIES ARE LEFT UNATTENDED, ALONGSIDE BRITISH COLUMBIA'S 20% FOREIGN PURCHASE SURCHARGE, BUT THE 2027 EXPIRATION OF THE FEDERAL FOREIGN BUYER BAN REPRESENTS A FULCRUM POINT IN THE REAL ESTATE MARKET THAT COULD HAVE GENERATIONAL RAMIFICATIONS IF NOT REENACTED.
ALSO, OINK.
