Just a random woman on the internet. I like books, seeing mushrooms in the wild (they are like flowers but more interesting), and cats.

Sending this out to whoever needs to see it: It's okay if you read slowly, there's no great victory in being able to read quickly, everyone kind of has their own reading speed, and that's perfectly fine. I'm just really happy you're reading. I hope it gives you joy at any pace. Thank you!

Hey, as a librarian I need to tell you: Our funding depends on usage. So go ahead and check out that book even if you don't think you'll finish it. No one will know. Check out that DVD even though you might not like it. Get ambitious in your quest for knowledge.

#nature #photography #birds #duck #woodduck Wood Duck hen and chicks. - taken 5.23.25 - Description in alt text
Friday as I was walking through my favorite nature center, down the long floating bridge, to where the Egrets hang out, I spotted this Wood Duck hen and her adorable chicks!! Other photographers had walked right by them. Even though I got many great shots that day, this was my favorite.

A wood duck hen is a female wood duck, a species known for its beautiful and unique appearance.

While male wood ducks are brightly colored with iridescent feathers, hen wood ducks have a more muted, brownish-gray plumage, with white markings around their eyes and on their wings.

They also have a white belly and throat, and their legs and feet are dark yellow.

Wood duck ducklings, also known as ducklings, are born with a full coat of downy feathers, appearing mostly gray and brown.

Actually the best life advice I ever got: Anything worth doing is worth doing poorly. A half-cleaned room is better than an uncleaned room. Occasionally flossing is better than never flossing. A 10-minute workout is better than no workout. When it’s all you can do to get out of bed, get out of bed.

applying for jobs again
screenshot from an online job application form. the question reads "Can you describe specific ways you have integrated AI tools into your development workflow? Please include any custom setups, automations, or use cases beyond single prompt usage" (a red asterisk indicates that this is a required question).

an answer has been typed in the textbox below the question:

"there is a monster in the forest and it speaks with a thousand voices. it will answer any question you pose it, it will offer insight to any idea. it will help you, it will thank you, it will never bid you leave. it will even tell you of the darkest arts, if you know precisely how to ask.

it feels no joy and no sorrow, it knows no right and no wrong. it knows not truth from lie, though it speaks them all the same.

it offers its services freely to any passerby, and many will tell you they find great value in its conversation. “you simply must visit the monster—i always just ask the monster.”

there are those who know these forests well; they will tell you that freely offered doesn’t mean it has no price

for when the next traveler passes by, the monster speaks with a thousand and one voices. and when you dream you see the monster; the monster wears your face."

Seriously, creative folks: Don't be afraid to let people know your stuff is out there for them, or worry that "now is not the time for that." People are stressed and freaked out and looking for the things that will give them a moment of rest and joy. It is EXACTLY the time for what we do. Tell them.

Is it too late for a bird break? No? Good. Take a break. Have a bird. Photo by me.
Close up of an owl -- a little screech-owl, yellow beak pointed down, feathers a mix of ruddy red and white. Its ears are perked up and back, pointy. Its eyes are yellow. They are pinched and tilted in a way that the owl is expressing something akin to incredulity, or perhaps, sheer unfuckwithable anger. This owl is dubious and full of salt. A salty, disappointed, disapproving owl. This owl is how we all feel right now, I suspect. This owl is all of us. This owl says, "well fuck this shit," and the owl is right. Anyway. The background is mostly dark -- hints of blue and green. Photo by me, Chuck Wendig

A handsome pair of American Wigeons. I think the female wigeon is gorgeous and possibly the prettiest of all female ducks that I've seen. #birds #ducks #wigeons
A pair of ducks on a jumbled pile of rocks, looking to the right. The female is in the centre of the photo. She is gray, buffy brown and a taffy to almost orange colour on her breast. He's partially obscured. HIs body is a darker purplish-brown. He has a green patch running from his eye to the the back of his neck, and a white stripe down the centre of his head.
