On September 28, battery discharge reached 482MW: equal to 8.7% of all-island electricity demand at the time. Both figures were new records on the Irish grid 🥇 In the latest "Irish Grid Monthly" we explain how and why this happened despite no new battery capacity having come online this year 🔋 🔎

This is DPER. This is literally DPER. Chamber's own department: Public Expenditure and Reform. Unless, it's DOGE. It's a ha'penny DOGE, isn't it? Because whoever is whispering into the minister's ear doesn't know what a DPER is, but is all like, "What Ireland needs is a DOGE, bro."

No, think the budget did more harm than good. The carbon tax is ring-fenced for initiatives to support people to decarbonise. By delaying & reducing the carbon tax, the govt have locked disadvantaged families into using expensive polluting fuels. Short term thinking at its most dangerous.

The budget, a missed opportunity to save money for hard-pressed families & end our reliance on fossil fuels. Running my EV car has cost €70 over past 2 months (I charge at night) and I got €125 credit from solar panels. Instead of driving the green transition the govt cut carbon tax! 😩 #SpeirGorm

So excited to see the cover for my novel based on the life of Irish artist Harry Clarke. It tells the story of his controversial Geneva Window as seen through the eyes of a young female assistant in Clarke’s studio. Set in 1920s Dublin, publishing January with @stairwellbooks.bsky.social
The cover features a highly detailed stained glass panel by Clarke. It features the character of Nelly from Liam O’Flaherty’s Mr Gilhooley. He picks her up from the street and she dances for him wearing only a thin veil. The figure of Nelly is depicted with a head of golden curls. Her pink veil, decorated with tiny star and heart shapes and a yellow zigzag border, seems to float around her. Clarke used a photo of a dancer from the Ballet Russes as inspiration. Cover text reads ‘The Window, A Novel, Catherine Crichton’

Call to fact-check columnists after another anti-MetroLink article from Colm McCarthy
A new article by economist Colm McCarthy against the planned 19km MetroLink from central Dublin to Swords has prompted a call for newspapers to fact-check their columnists. Councillor Feljin Jose, the Green Party's spokesperson on transport, made the call after McCarthy wrongly claimed in the Sunday Business Post today that "The only available evaluation of MetroLink’s costs and benefits was released as part of the TII’s preliminary assessment in 2022."

Walking Wicklow-Greystones yesterday, the speed of coastal erosion toward the railway— hastened by accelerating sea level rise—was starkly apparent vs last year. As pointed out to Irish Rail engineers, the protection plan does not account for revised SLR projection. The rail line has to move inland.
