Wild idea: what if the Commission listened to civil society and independent scientists instead of the usual corporate suspects? 🙃 While industry lobbies tighten their grip, progress on climate, pollution and digital rights is being chipped away. That's not competitiveness. That's capture.
Quote graphic by Corporate Europe Observatory. A black-and-white photo of Kenneth Haar, researcher and campaigner, appears on the right. The quote reads: 'Clearly, Ursula von der Leyen takes great pride in the deregulation campaign she has launched under the pretext of simplification. Her problem is, that the EU cannot address the climate crisis or handle the risks from AI if it keeps going the way of omnibuses and deregulation. The plan to do a pact against gold-plating is much more dangerous than it sounds. Corporate lobby groups will eye this as an opportunity to bring down ambitious environmental policies and social standards at the member state level. This could evolve into a deregulation drive going berserk.'
