Liberal Arts Left

You’re in the Liberal Arts Left, so you’re as progressive as it gets — passionate, educated, younger, and maybe reading this in your walkable city’s finest third space.

You are highly engaged in the electoral process and your friends probably prioritize the same policies you do: things like wealth redistribution, student loan forgiveness, and climate action.

Notably, you’re part of a pretty small minority who think the government should ban parents from spanking their kids.

Yes. Read the full short thread. If your party gets a chance it should make good policy because it's your chance to make good policy. As for elections, try to manage the economy well and don't get into stupid wars, and beyond that ????.

Blue state YIMBYism is a critical pillar of the antifascist project because it helps tilt migration patterns towards blue states, both increasing their political power and increasing the population of people living under relatively sane, non-fascist governance.

And the wheel will turn! I stepped out of my Rayburn office 11 Junes ago to witness the scene outside SCOTUS when the Obergefell ruling dropped. (I ended up reading out my Twitter feed to the exuberant iPhone-deprived elder activists near me.) If that's what’s possible with a *Kennedy* majority...

Even if this wasn’t delusional, it would speak to 1) an organized left too incompetent to gain power with all this support in waiting, and 2) a sociopathic mass of non voters allowing fascism to proceed out of some kind of petulance masquerading as righteousness.

Changing/fixing/reforming the Court is simply going to be the consensus Dem position (perhaps with serious differences on how to do it) going into 2028, and this is as good evidence as any. (And I'm glad to see DC statehood moving up the priority list as well).

This poem has grown to be one of my favorites. Emma Lazarus was a queer Jewish woman from a wealthy Sephardic family watching as Ashkenazi Jews escaping oppression and grinding poverty came ashore. She contrasts the conquering male giant with a towering female caregiver. Soft power > physical might.
