Haitian Bridge Alliance President Guerline Jozef said that Pierre Damas Bel had complained of heat emanating from the ankle monitor and needing to wear a sock between the device and his leg to protect his skin. She said when Pierre Damas Bel brought those concerns to ICE at an appointment asking for it to be removed, they instead tightened the monitor, saying it should not be lose enough for a sock to fit underneath it.

This revelation was met with horrified gasps among those in the sanctuary.

How are they able to do this is a good question. Traditionally, use of IRS data by others is not permitted without statutory permission. I figured this came through the OBBBA, and IRS is part of Treasury, but the last line here suggests some creative lawerly reinterpretation was needed.

How is the Treasury authorized to create an account for my child?
The big tax and policy bill that Congress passed in July 2025 added a section to the federal tax code — known as 530A — that gave the Treasury permission to create children’s initial accounts. This week, the I.R.S. issued temporary rules that accelerate that process, while also proposing final rules that allow the public to comment.

The Trump administration had been under pressure from policymakers, philanthropists and researchers who study such accounts to automatically enroll children, based on a variety of research showing that low-earning families particularly benefit when children are automatically enrolled in investment accounts.

But the administration had to come up with a structure that would allow the creation of individual accounts while also adhering to rules that say federal tax return information must remain confidential. The Treasury and I.R.S. had previously believed that was a major hurdle.

A significant part here is that it matters a lot *which* LLMs people are using. That the president is using the Nazi LLM made by Musk, which also generates CSAM, is materially different from other commercial models, but especially from models that we could audit and inspect. Kuby is representing Tova Fry, a 76-year-old grandmother and daughter of Hungarian Jews who survived the Nazi occupation of Hungary. Fry is named as a defendant in a lawsuit filed by Trump's DOJ in September. The suit accuses Fry of violating the FACE Act by serving a notice of impending legal action to a man who planned to host an event at his house allegedly to sell stolen Palestinian land. The DOJ argues that her actions constitute an attempt to intimidate a house of worship because the man she served allegedly has a prayer room in his home.
