Saw a very inspiring news video this morning about a man jailed for attempting to throw drugs into HMP Hull. I've been thinking about it all day and felt a tribute was merited.

In 2002 or 03 a Chicago public access cable channel aired this for at least a full half hour. No audio. I took a photo with a digital camera & that’s all the documentation I have. Anyone have any dirt?

🟢 NEW | ICE has quietly bought access to a powerful surveillance system that can monitor entire neighborhoods by sweeping up cellphone location data and tracking people’s movements over time, according to documents obtained by 404 Media.

The system, built by Penlink, consists of two tools called Webloc and Tangles. Webloc lets agents draw virtual perimeters around blocks or cities, identify phones present, and trace where devices travel over time, including likely homes and workplaces — all without a warrant. Tangles adds social media monitoring, including tracking and analysis of online activity.

Civil liberties groups warn the system enables mass dragnet surveillance to help ICE’s deportation crackdown. ICE argues commercially sourced data is exempt from warrant requirements, a claim critics say exploits legal loopholes and poses serious risks to privacy, free speech, and immigrant communities.

Full story in reply.

It is painfully, bloodily obvious that "the most meaningful divide in American political and cultural life is between “left” and “right.” " I'd love it if it were some other polarity/conflict generating any heat but there isn't one. People aren't getting shot over anything else.

I was asked what image really stands out for me from the scene of today's killing of an observer by federal agents. It's this one, where border patrol Commander Greg Bovino appears to be staging a photo op less than an hour after and just a few dozen feet from where a federal agent killed a woman.

But members of the class continued to express concern over comments made by Associate Professor of History James Hankins during his
History 10a lecture on Tuesday.
During the lecture, which centered on the age of chivalry and courtly love, Hankins allegedly said
"'Feminists have invented sexual harassment and date rape in order to gain dominance in our society,'' according to an unidentified member of the class.

TRUMP [after spending 5 minutes with Zohran]: surplus value, it’s a very wonderful thing, very wonderful, and they’re stealing it. Can you believe that? We’re going to be looking very strongly at the bourgeoisie, what they’re up to

live look at the first gala affair they throw in there:
final passage from Cormac McCarthy’s ‘Blood Meridian’:

“And they are dancing, the board floor slamming under the jackboots and the fiddlers grinning hideously over their canted pieces. Towering over them all is the judge and he is naked dancing, his small feet lively and quick and now in doubletime and bowing to the ladies, huge and pale and hairless, like an enormous infant. He never sleeps, he says. He says he'll never die. He bows to the fiddlers and sashays backwards and throws back his head and laughs deep in his throat and he is a great favorite, the judge. He wafts his hat and the lunar dome of his skull passes palely under the lamps and he swings about and takes possession of one of the fiddles and he pirouettes and makes a pass, two passes, dancing and fiddling all at once. His feet are light and nimble. He never sleeps. He says that he will never die. He dances in light and in shadow and he is a great favorite. He never sleeps, the judge. He is dancing, dancing. He says that he will never die.”

I love to call my Senators' offices three times per week and try to cajole them into doing the most elementary political messaging and strategy. This is what it means to be an engaged citizen: leaving a strenuously polite voicemail for a 74yo on a more regular cadence than I talk to my parents.
