It’s a mark of the corruption of our whole way of thinking about the world that trying to meet a planetary emergency is routinely described as “ideological”, while continuing to accelerate it is presented as “pragmatic” and “economic”.

these are not “autonomous” attacks: they are failures by humans to implement appropriate controls for the computers acting on their behalf, and we must not forget it.

Incredibly interested in the creative development of this mascot. Why does it look like the Abominable Snowman? Not that it nec. shouldn't -- but I want to know why. What other options did they turn down, and for what reasons? I want to read the briefs!!

If someone "outraced" law enforcement while committing a crime in order to get away with it, would WaPo say they were simply "subverting norms that guided others?"

ok but two things: 1. the bar isn't "helpful", its "truthful"; offering a bunch of lies with a smile isn't actually the goal here 2. people are pissed because the WH press insists on defending an ally of American fascism, not because they think you were lying about her being helpful

I think this gets to the heart of liberal-left complaints about the press. Political reporters think we're criticizing them for not being on "our" side. We're not. We're criticizing them for not being on journalism's side. Unplug from the DC celebrity access system and do honest independent work.

I think part of the pundit crack-up has been that they missed the big call of their lifetimes about which was the bigger threat to America: wokeness or authoritarianism. And rather than admitting that, they are doubling down on wokeness, while ignoring an authoritarianism that does not threaten them

At this point, minute-to-minute election result coverage is dangerous journalistic malpractice. Rolling ballot counts that aren't representative (most of them) mean nothing, are misleading and are *specifically being used to sow doubt in fair elections.* We have a duty to see this use & counter it.

I haven't seen many videos of El-Sayed (not a Michigan voter; only so many hours in the day) but now I'm even more confused by legacy media's DSA panic. A normal person who speaks normally instead of like an LLM trained solely on brainrot X posts or think tank white papers. The appeal is obvious!

I am curious what every newsroom that does NOT write with this sort of context thinks about the Guardian doing so. Is accurately quoting a source unjournalistic? www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026...
Kirk, a far-right political figure who served as a sort of Pied Piper for young Republicans through his Turning Point USA foundation, was shot dead in September last year. He was known for his racist and bigoted views, using his podcast to claim that "prowling Blacks go around for fun to go target white people" and speculating: "If I see a Black pilot, I'm going to be like: 'Boy, I hope he's qualified'"
Despite, or perhaps because of, such beliefs, Kirk became a hugely celebrated and influential figure in Maga circles. In New York City, one of the most diverse, and Democratic, cities in the US, Kirk is far less popular.
