He's still furious that we all didn't turn on our neighbors last winter in the 'surge.' I'm convinced that GOP thought that's what would happen. That we – like them and their tiny, shrunken hearts – resent these folks. But there have been decades of weaving in together. One Minnesota isn't a joke.

Picture of hands changing a smoke alarm battery. The text reads: In brightest day. In blackest night. I shall sound with all my might. When there's a fire or when my battery is dead if you forgot to change it. Which you did. Good morning, it's 3AM. Smoke alarms chirp all night! Check the expiration dates on your smoke alarms. Test the batteries. Oath optional.

I've heard people make claims that AI would lead to a new Renaissance, but I didn't imagine it'd happen like this:
Screenshot of a Tweet from Pope Leo XIV. It reads:

"In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgen to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity."

Please, bear with me but I have a simple proposal: considering the outbreak of salmonella in eggs and cyclospora in lettuce and salmonella in jalapeños and cyclospora in herbs perhaps we should create and fund some kind of agency to prevent outbreaks like these.

What I find most offensive about the discourse around Wilson's critique in the LRB is it directly attacks the idea of scholarly integrity. Because the film sold books, she should only praise it? It assumes that the point of scholarship is making money, not the pursuit of knowledge. 1/

I've had to unfriend a few fans lately, all for the same reason. They made ridiculing, unkind, and in some cases outright cruel comments about pictures I posted of young women cosplaying Jessica.
More than a person, Jessica is a state of mind. To play Jessica, you need self -confidence, a sense of humor, and a Jessican -attitude-. There is no such thing as a Jessica cosplayer being too short, too flat chested, too heavy, too thin, too unattractive, too black, too Asian, or even too male!!! All Jessica, any Jessica, every Jessica is good Jessica.
I'm not giving any warnings or second chances. A single disparaging comment on a Jessica cosplayer, and I'm throwing you out of the rainbow colored Toontown Tent.

Props to consumer reports for their journalism here. Since Taylor foods and the FDA are not disclosing where all the lettuce went they’re doing a great job trying to figure out the details. For now they’re recommending everyone trash all their iceberg. www.consumerreports.org/health/food-...
The recall notices posted by Taylor Farms and the FDA are notably sparse on the essential details consumers need to easily identify affected products. The recall notice does not list the full brand names of the implicated products, and instead lists only what appear to be the abbreviations used internally by Taylor Farms to identify brands.
Walmart's Marketside house brand, for instance, was listed as "MKTSD" and Sysco, the U.S.'s largest food distributor, was listed as "SY." Both companies confirmed that their products were part of the recall after being contacted by Consumer Reports. CR is working to confirm the identities of the six additional brands whose names are abbreviated in the recall notice. Taylor Farms did not immediately respond to CR's questions about the identity of these brands.
Given the lack of details, CR's food safety experts advise consumers in the 27 states where Taylor Farms' products were distributed to discard all iceberg lettuce out of an abundance of caution.

UPDATE: Jack in the Box just confirmed to me that it also received the cyclospora-linked lettuce from Taylor Farms The lettuce was sent to Jack in the Box stores in Texas, Oklahoma, & Louisiana. The company says it told restaurants to remove the product after learning about the issue on Thursday
Fast food restaurant chain Jack in the Box also received the implicated shredded lettuce, which was used at Jack in the Box locations in Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana, a spokesperson told CR. “We learned of the potential issue on Thursday, prior to the FDA’s announcement, and immediately notified restaurants that received shredded iceberg lettuce through our Texas distribution center to remove the product,” said Jack in the Box spokesperson Casey Middleton. “At this time, there have been no known illnesses associated with food served at Jack in the Box from these locations in connection with the FDA’s ongoing investigation.”

A drawing of Elizabeth Bennet, a lovely young woman with her long hair tied up nearly under a ribbon and wearing what is most likely a neo-classically inspired dress, looking pensive, two letters in her hand. Meanwhile Darcy, a handsome but stern-looking fellow, looks longingly at her. Also there is me, a little gremlin in big round glasses, skulking about in the background and hoping that they kiss.
