True cosmic terror is when you spot a odd-looking "galaxy", that doesn't resemble a galaxy, about 13-ish billion light years away, and realizing that it's blue instead of red

The Heart Nebula, a cosmic beauty of stardust pulsating in a shimmering constellation, radiates with the warmth of a celestial embrace. "For small creatures such as we, the vastness is bearable only through love." — Carl Sagan, from Cosmos (1980)
A digital rendering of a nebula with a striking heart shape, illuminated by vibrant gold and orange hues at its core, encircled by ethereal blue and teal gases. Scattered throughout are numerous sparkling stars, adding depth and a sense of cosmic wonder. This astrophysical marvel serves as a stunning representation of stellar formation, revealing the intricate processes unfolding in space.

The coolest thing I’ve seen today is that a bunch of volunteer public health professionals and developers have restored the CDC website from before January 20th 2025. This differs from an archive in that they want to rebuild the links between pages and replicate the full website.

Against the dark background of space, pale, misty clouds of gas and dust are sprinkled with blue and pink stars. Some bright pink patches of clustered stars are visible, as are dark brown knots of dust.

Sun roasted potato. 🥔 Photo from my collection, 1954.
A pretty shorthaired calico cat reclining on her side and back in a strong window sunbeam that is baking across a carpeted surface. She is positively glowing in the light and it’s a gorgeous contrast to the stark edge of the sun where the carpet appears to become almost completely black. She’s in a rectangular island of light.

I’ve been working on the Jellyfish Nebula (IC 443) and surrounding region for a while. The jellyfish is a supernova remnant - shrapnel from a star that exploded ~30,000 years ago 9 hours, #Seestar S50 🔭 🧪 Multiple separate pointings Siril 1.3.6-dev, GraXpert, Starnet, GIMP
Two prominent yellow stars bookend the image. Close to the leftmost bright star is a large red nebula that looks like a jellyfish. Between the brights stars are other faint regions of glowing gas and dust. A small blue reflection nebula is centered at the top of the frame. The dark background behind the scene is dotted with numerous stars.

NGC 1514 (MIRI image). M. Hakan Özsaraç Science NASA, ESA, CSA, STScI www.flickr.com/photos/mhozs...
This mid-infrared image from MIRI showcases the planetary nebula NGC 1514, often called Crystal Ball Nebula. It appears as a roughly spherical, glowing cloud with a complex structure. The nebula exhibits a range of colors, from a bright white outer shell to a mottled interior of red, pink, and blue hues, suggesting varying temperatures and compositions of the ejected stellar material. A bright central star is visible at the nebula's core, surrounded by a faint, star-like halo. The dark background is sprinkled with a few distant stars, while the bottom right corner of the image includes text stating "Processing M. Hakan Özsaraç Science NASA, ESA, CSA, STScI".
