It’s hard to imagine how @bardcollege.bsky.social could have handled this worse. The administration, and many faculty members, stood by Botstein, defended him in the press, and made efforts to prolong his affiliation with the college. It is clear what their values are.

Here's a good overview of the student protests in France, which began in Paris suburbs, in working-class schools attended by many black & brown students, & have spread nationwide. The government has tried to end the protests through violent repression. It hasn't worked. f24.my/CCfu

Bit more niche but also you don't need to be sworn in by the speaker *at all* after an election. You do if you are elected mid-session (by house rules) but immediately after the election you are sworn by the speaker elect by convention, not by requirement

The House is not a continuing body like the Senate. It reconstitutes entirely after the election. No rules or leadership carry over to the next session except only to the extent that the next session affirmatively chooses to readopt rules or leadership

That’s not how the House works. Come January 3 at noon, there is no Speaker. The Clerk of the House is in charge until a Speaker is elected. Mike Johnson will have exactly as much power as I do. None.

Think about it: how often in the last decade have you white-knuckled the first season of a show that was really dragging only to get some promising developments in the last few minutes of S1? And then when you come back for S2, it's straight back to dragging and withholding.

An important corollary to the Surf Dracula tweet that I think should be talked about more, now that we're basically inundated with these types of shows, is that most of them don't get renewed, but even the ones that are don't turn into the weekly adventures of Surf Dracula in the second season.
Screenshot of a tweet from user @topherfluence: "back in the day if u did a tv show called surf dracula you'd see that fool surfing every week in new adventures but in the streaming era the entire 1st season gotta be a long ass flashback to how he got the surfboard until you finally get ot see him surf for 5 min in the finale"

The five musicians also bonded over a shared appreciation of the English comedy troupe Monty Python.[22] Harrison, who had worked with the members of Monty Python on various productions by his company HandMade Films since the late 1970s, particularly appreciated Orbison's gift for impersonation and his ability to recite entire sketches by the troupe.[23][24]

I understand wanting October 7th to be a day where we mourn only our communal dead. But that option ended as soon as Israel responded by carrying out an openly retaliatory campaign of carnage, immiseration and mass death. All those deaths are linked together now! You can't unchain them!

This is a separately ticketed course. Register here: https://events.leapevents.com/tickets/nycc26cle257gbdjk61wpv2

This CLE program explores how the rapid advancement of AI tools—now capable of producing near market-ready comic art, scripts, and character designs—has heightened legal uncertainty around authorship, ownership, and infringement. Focusing on risk mitigation, the program analyzes the U.S. Copyright Office’s evolving human authorship framework, along with recent federal decisions that narrow protection for AI-assisted and machine-generated works.Participants will examine how integrating AI into creative workflows can create gaps in the chain of title, complicate rights enforcement, and expose creators, publishers, and their counsel to avoidable liability. The program then shifts to practical strategies attorneys can implement immediately, including strengthening documentation protocols, structuring agreements to address AI inputs and outputs, navigating disclosure obligations, and developing internal policies designed to preserve protectable interests while reducing litigation risk in an increasingly hybrid creative environment.

This session is approved for 2.5 CLE credits of professional practice for NY (transitional and non-transitional) and 2.5 general credits for NJ.
