And in some places, like where I live in Spain, renewables have penetrated so much that at least at the household end user level electricity prices are basically level over the past several years.

NO bulwark isn't a fair reading of electoral results relative to strength of various national reactionary movements (to say nothing of how coalition governments have limited the scope of reactionary policy achievements). Just that the problems with lib democracy vigorously transcend party system.

I don't find the Schmitt Senate fiasco remotely funny. It's just McCarthyism but more incompetent. It's appalling, & a constitutional order that can't end this level of unserious lying & extremist nonsense isn't worth saving. We need massive institutional reform to make sure it never happens again.

I prefer Schmitt to Heidegger. Heidegger was a true fascist; he desired salvation from thought in the quiescent ‘Being’ of the Reich, whereas the Nazis got pissed off with Schmitt for being way too much of a hermeneutist of suspicion. He’s one of these reactionaries who almost goes so far in..

While this is true, it's also important to understand the elements of Jungian nonduality precluded by too quick of an associative label. My fave example is Carl Schmitt. Nazi-like ideas? Oh HELL yes. Correct and super important observation of tensions and weaknesses in liberal democracy? Also yes.

High Decoupling: Philosophers do this when discussing figures like Heidegger and my response is usually some form of "If your trade is thinking really hard and you end up being a Nazi then maybe your ideas are Nazi-like." You can decouple idea from source somewhat, but not as much as people think

Pompeii is a UNESCO world heritage site not because it was remarkable in its prime, but because it survived to our era untouched: one moment, preserved for all time. But future generations won't know what OUR world was like unless we do the same. This is why we MUST bury Toronto with a volcano

As an aside, a legal solution that @surcomplicated.bsky.social is fond of, which I think is very unlikely, but offers a potential rout to this outcome, is post-Trump to declare retroactively that Trump was ineligible under the 14th amendment and so was never legally president a second time.

The thing about actual Roman damnationes memoriarum is that they didn't really obliterate all memory of a bad emperor. None of our sources are afraid to talk about these figures. It wasn't truly about forgetting the guy, but about abolishing his (positive) public commemoration.
