the reason “AI will create so much abundance we will have a utopian society” rhetoric falls so flat is that the people building it will never, ever share their bounty unless it is taken from them and we all know it

Customer service has gotten materially worse. Web search is barely usable. Webpages have become less functional and those that still work are buckling under 100x the traffic. Basic computer functionality we've taken for granted has been trashed. Malpractice has proliferated across every industry.

ALSO she gives instructions for baking the ciabatta softer if you want to, and that was great - much easier to dip in our soup and not slice up the roofs of our mouths!

Made this ADORABLE (and delicious) wee ciabatta today, from @ryeisenberg.bsky.social ‘s fantastic book! I got it as consolation for our son leaving for college, since we don’t have a resident teenager to eat the big loaves I make before they go stale, and this was absolutely the right call!

“how do we win back trump voters in 2026” we don’t. we create an environment where admitting to voting for trump is so socially embarrassing as to render them completely inert. you don’t “win back” trump voters. you demoralize them into staying home. you make it a dunce cap

why pay for school photos when, for the low, low price of feeding your own child's sensitive personal information to a machine that churns out child sexual exploitation imagery, you could get a bunch of photos of a creepy waxwork simulacrum of your child instead?

*extremely tired voice*AI agents don't "go rogue". They are not sentient; they don't have agency. They work within guardrails set by humans. If the humans are so shit at building secure sandboxes for the agents to work within, that's on the humans. Stop using this framing.

Making granola is SO EASY that I felt scammed the first time I made it a couple years ago: why had I been spending like $8/bag on it for years??? (Also it’s so weird to make, compared to all the other baking I do. “Ok, I guess I’ll put these… damp oats… in the oven now? And granola will result?”)

fascists only have one move, which is to find people to blame problems on. they can't address any real problems bc that's not part of the story. they just have to find people to blame. and anybody who doesn't play along becomes somebody to blame

ended up talking to the 4th grader this morning about fascists, which can be hard to explain simply. i said fascists get mad the world isn't how they want, so they make up a story: things used to be good, but certain people ruined it, and if we just get rid of them everything will be good again

We took our baby to college and left him there today - it’s exciting and scary all at once (for all of us)! But I’ve spent 19 years completely immersed in his life, and now that stage of my life is over. Now this huge piece of my heart lives elsewhere, and it’s discombobulating. It’s too quiet here.
