30k is life changing money. Let me speak from my material reality. In the olden days when I went to university 30k wpuld have covered a major portion of my tuition food books and housing costs for the 4 years. Kids whose parents didn't have that money had to borrow it. Well off Kids didn't.
Screen shot text:

I don't think 30k is a life-changing amount of money.

Median American born in 1980 will have 2m in income in their lifetime. It's a 1% increase in earings.

Actual creative people know firsthand that the easiest way to make your stuff more creative is to add some kind of constraint to it Ai hype grifters, who are not creative, don't understand this. They're like "but this machine has limitless possibilities! It does all grudge work you of course hate"

Oh! It's #InternationalArchaeologyDay! The main character of Parch Marks, Eva Sinclair, is an archaeologist. She started off in academia, but became famous after making TV documentaries. She assists with a very strange Bronze Age site in the Pennines www.gold.ac.uk/goldsmiths-p...

And I speak of spiritual suffering! Of people seeing their talent, their work, their lives wasted. Of good minds submitting to stupid ones. Of strength and courage strangled by envy, greed for power, fear of change.

Another ginnel & snicket in York, Three Cranes Lane links St Sampson's Square with Swinegate. At the Swinegate end of the lane are the remains of a 16th-17th century timber frame + a collection of wheelie bins which, like cars, are everywhere. #UrbanSketch #pen #waterolour #drawing #ArtShare
Pem and watercolour on-site sketch of several bins lined up against a wall in a ginnel or passage through a building. The wall behind the bins has two timbers of an earlier building embedded in it. A detail drawing of the vertical post can be seen on the left.

I actually think the use of the word “finally” is so telling as to the role our heavily right-wing media plays in our politics. Sources like The Telegraph have been pushing successive governments for trans-exclusionary policy for years. They’ve got what they wanted. This is now their victory lap.

Lilly would've been 90 today, she had a full life, 3 kids and 2 grandkids. In the mid 1960s she had a post natal breakdown. Lily was put in a van and taken to High Royds asylum. She spent 2 years having ECT, Mogadon and cold water 'treatment.' Lilly got out /1
An app filtered photo of Lilly drinking from a rose tea cup, looking sharply out at us. She has short silver hair and blue eyes.

A very powerful piece. The bits about building curiosity particularly struck a chord with me; I try to do this through my teaching, but I also find it good for my mental health - being reminded there is so much out there still to learn and discover.

In short, fruit trees were once an integral part of the agricultural landscape. For a long time. From the 1950s on, modernisation of agriculture & changing lifestyles meant they no longer had a place in the landscape, so many were removed. A lot of what we use are remnants of that forgotten culture
