For those of us who grew up in the Reagan 80s, when the spectres of Stalin, Mao & Castro were invoked as terms of harshest condemnation by the GOP, it is almost unimaginably disorienting to find ourselves in a right-wing dystopia led by people who apparently view Stalin, Mao & Castro as role models.
Snippet of headline and first 2 paragraphs from New York Times story reporting how Chinese who lived through the Cultural Revolution (1966-68) view what Trump and DOGE are doing to America as eerily reminiscent of Mao's efforts to destabilize China in order to consolidate his own power.

There is another ghost map of England. It features no stately homes, no castles nor ruined abbeys. It is charted by those who tramp hard roads and sleep in abandoned buildings. It is a map of murder barns, haunted hedges. Doors you won't knock at even when your stomach is hollow. – #CJosiffe #Ghosts

One of my favorite artifacts in the #MetMuseum is this Etruscan terracotta statue of a young woman. The elaborate necklace and armband appear to have been reproduced from molds of actual jewelry. 🏺 #ancientbluesky Late 4th-early 3rd c. BCE (Lavinium?). 📸 me
Upper half of a life size terracotta statue of a young woman with short straight hair. Her cloak is pulled up over her head in a veil, and she stares straight ahead with rather spooky eyes; her right arm has a thick armband (it would have been gold), and the missing lower arm would have been extended and holding an incense box (a known type). She has elaborate necklaces, each with large plates or pendants, some of which depict Etruscan gods and heroes in relief. She originally wore a pair of grape-cluster earrings, now broken off.
