While obviously not on the level of ordering war crimes, this policy change will do real and lasting harm of a different kind. The U.S. service academies have benefited tremendously by being able to attract and retain top academic talent to teach future leaders. That ends with this memo. 🤬

I’m not sure how the topic came up, but we were discussing the change from the APFT to ACFT to AFT, and the resultant culture change around fitness. The test is not ideal, nor is the excessive focus on the test (a mere proxy) instead of actual readiness. But it is a huge improvement over the APFT.

Not a fan of this. If you run for office, do it as Mr. or Ms., not as Pastor. I don’t see how a megachurch pastor can separate his position from his candidacy. The problem isn’t injecting faith into politics. The problem is this pulls the church further into politics and distracts from the mission.

4 things are true: His family member should not be deported. LePage has always been hostile to immigration and has supported this administration. It is hard to sympathize with LePage, but we should. Our policies are inhumane. LePage should also be denounced for his hypocrisy and inhumanity.

This is what happens when everything around you facilitates your success, but you’ve been led to believe you’re a self-made individual whose prosperity is attributable to hard work and discipline. If my dude was born anywhere else on this earth, there’s a solid chance he’d be destitute.

When I was in Samarra, Iraq, we put snipers on the spiral minaret to overwatch routes in and out of the city. This was to deter and prevent emplacement of IEDs and other hostile acts. We also tried launching Raven drones from the minaret. That was no more useful than launching them from elsewhere.

That’s not what this memo says. It simply explains the difficulty of diagnosing the cause of testosterone deficiency when symptoms can arise from behavioral factors common in the population being screened. The prescribed intervention will likely be lifestyle change rather than hormone replacement.

When a leader in an authoritarian regime - or one leaning that direction - purges general officers and the subordinates who merely worked for them, that seems concerning. It is especially so when the country is a global power and the leader of that country threatens the sovereignty of its neighbors.

This. Safety is imperative because of our “lethality”. We pose as much danger to ourselves as the enemy does. A large part of leadership is risk management - in training, combat, and garrison - whether risk is to the mission, troops (two top priorities), tax dollars, or organization’s reputation.
