Last re-skeet: there is no one solution for accessibility, and we really, really need to do better at accepting that as an immutable fact across all areas of disability. What provides access for one person can even close the door for another. Having *multiple* choices/options is the way ahead.

This is genuinely cool and I love bike lanes and agree with everything in this post except the first two lines. Not every disabled person is capable of independent mobility and if you tried to invent the device my legally blind mom needed, it would probably look like a car.

Bookstores should also take note. Your Banned Books Week displays can actively, positively impact the livelihoods of living authors whose books have been banned. And it's super easy to avoid including harassers (Gaiman, Alexie) and/or bigots (Rowling) on your displays. Be thoiughtful.

It's Banned Books Week. My fellow librarians, listen carefully: your book displays should be almost exclusively writers who are alive. Yes, I know classic literature is also being banned, but most of those authors are dead. They aren't suffering financially from bans and challenges.

We absolutely need this as public policy but if you want it for your kids and the schools aren’t doing it: check if local progressive churches offer the OWL program. It’s usually done as a public service, not religious programming as such, by UU and UCC congregations. Also some UMC, I think.

I just don't understand why, in light of the fact that blue collar jobs are extremely hard on the body, the solution is "tell your kids to go to college" instead of "we should be implementing strong worker protections so that the people who build and fix our homes aren't in pain all the time"

A note re:grousing I'm seeing on the skyline: Ethical journalists conducing careful investigations need to interview a lot of people, do a lot of fact checking, and go through legal review. Not seeing reporting about the horrific sexual abuse in SV right now doesn't mean people aren't working on it.
