Awash In Time @awashintime.bsky.social · 21/03/2025Here’s a problem with going back in time to the 30s to impede Nazi war efforts, I don’t speak German. That’ll make me stand out in a time of rampant nationalism. 010
Awash In Time @awashintime.bsky.social · 20/03/2025WW II was horrible. Churchill’s temporal secretary has asked me to give him an advantage by telling him how Germany is re-arming itself. Instead of doing that, why don’t I go and impede the Nazi’s war efforts myself? 010
Awash In Time @awashintime.bsky.social · 13/03/2025I can take general news back to Churchill’s temporal secretary, but what’s the point? It will just be like hearsay. Or worse, I'll be Cassandra for last years of the Empire. 000
Awash In Time @awashintime.bsky.social · 11/03/2025I pack the history books, set to the timepad to 1933, hit go, but nothing happens. Then I see the timepad flashing. “WARNING: Transportation of information technology not permitted!” They’re books! 010
Awash In Time @awashintime.bsky.social · 11/03/2025I’ve been reading about the start of WW II to help prepare Churchill’s team. There is so much information to absorb, and some conflicting theories. I decide to just bring the books back to 1933 and let the temporal secretary sort it out. 010
Awash In Time @awashintime.bsky.social · 11/03/2025Tasked with returning to 1933 to tell Churchill’s temporal secretary what happens next. He wants to prepare. But what to tell him? The whole war? The first important part about the Battle of Britain? Dunkirk? The awful lengths that the war went to? 000
Awash In Time @awashintime.bsky.social · 03/03/2025Oh, a conflict starts all right. How do I describe when and how WW II starts? The nice thing about time travel is I can think about this for a while, and he won’t know how long it took me. I bid farewell and say I will return to 1933 with answers. #timetravel 010
Awash In Time @awashintime.bsky.social · 02/03/2025In 1933. “I can’t tell you what happens, I’m a time traveller, not a historian.” Shame his name isn’t Jim. “Don’t be obstructive, go back to your present and read a book, then come back here.” “What do you want to know?” “Does a conflict start and when? How much time do we have to prepare?” 000
Awash In Time @awashintime.bsky.social · 01/03/2025In 1933 London with Churchill’s temporal secretary. “We know Germany is re-arming and conflict is looming.” Knew that. He continued, “Tell me what happens next.” Can I do that? Will I create a paradox? I’ve never worried about it with my previous small interactions in time, but this is HUGE.” 000
Awash In Time @awashintime.bsky.social · 28/02/2025Talking to Churchill’s temporal secretary. “Where have you people been? Why hasn’t your command sent anybody? We haven’t seen a time traveller for decades!” Command? There’s a structure? 020
Awash In Time @awashintime.bsky.social · 27/02/2025I was sent to Churchill’s fifth private secretary, most people know he had four, this one was known as the temporary secretary. Nobody understood his actual job as the temporal secretary. 000
Awash In Time @awashintime.bsky.social · 26/02/2025“Why is Churchill looking for somebody like me?” “Lord Churchill. The time couriers were a closely held secret known to a few, including the First Lord of the Admiralty. As soon as Lord Churchill was reappointed he asked to be alerted to the presence of any time travellers.” 020
Awash In Time @awashintime.bsky.social · 26/02/2025At Brooks’s in 1933. I ask for the time master, and first thing he’s says, “Good Lord man, what are you doing here? You need to be at the Admiralty, Lord Churchill is looking for you.” Me? “Not you, just anybody like you.” 000
Awash In Time @awashintime.bsky.social · 26/02/2025To find answers I decided to go back to the roots of my time courier experience. The Brook’s in London which I first visited in 1837. This time I visit in 1933, the year Hitler became Chancellor. I need to learn more about Nazis and the risks of time travel. 000
Awash In Time @awashintime.bsky.social · 24/02/2025A while ago my ideas on time travel were confronted by a distinguished gentleman on the tube. I was so shocked by his perspective I didn’t think about the important question. How did he find me? I need answers, how do I find him? 000
Awash In Time @awashintime.bsky.social · 23/02/2025At first I didn’t think my mild interferences in 1837 made a difference. It was so long ago (I probably have a bias to my present) but WW II is much closer to me. What were the Nazis doing? Especially near the end of the war. Wernher von Braun seemed ahead of the time. 000
Awash In Time @awashintime.bsky.social · 23/02/2025I think of myself as an independent contract time traveller. Recently I’ve been working for the Victorian Empire. I thought of my time courier work as a harmless way to make money. Now I learn that, in aggregate, the time couriers may be affecting the flow of history. 000
Awash In Time @awashintime.bsky.social · 20/02/2025“How’s my time travel affecting the Victorian Empire?” “I don’t know what you’re doing, but when I come from the Raj did not last until 1947, now it has.” I know of a number of travellers acting as time couriers, giving the Empire a distinct advantage.” “What if this is happening over all time?” 000
Awash In Time @awashintime.bsky.social · 17/02/2025I've just been told not to help the Victorian Empire grow. I feel I'm only helping it become as great as our history shows. I responded, "My time travel can't change the fates." His response, "Oh, but you can, and you mustn’t.” 010
Awash In Time @awashintime.bsky.social · 17/02/2025“Giving Victorian England the advantage of modern travel to connect their empire will stifle the growth of other nations, perhaps forever." “I prefer to think of the time courier business as helping them become the greatest empire in history. I don’t believe we can change the fates.” 000
Awash In Time @awashintime.bsky.social · 16/02/2025More travellers are disappearing. Disconcerting, maybe I should discontinue my time courier business. Riding the tube today, on my way to LHR to make delivery in 1837 when I was accosted by a well dressed man. “Don't do this, the Empire should not get temporal help, it already has enough power.” 020
Awash In Time @awashintime.bsky.social · 14/02/2025After my third trip to 1837 India, the time master asked me if I’d seen anything suspicious. “Like what?” I said. “I don’t know,” he responded. “One of our shipments has gone missing along with the traveller.” “What year was the traveller passing through?” I said, hoping it wasn’t in my timeline. 010
Awash In Time @awashintime.bsky.social · 12/02/2025Time is the friend of compound interest. I picked up my payment from Coutts today. 188 years produced a considerable sum, though not quite as much as I originally thought. There were 3 recessions before 1900, one of them lasted for 20 years! Still, it’s enough to want to time courier again. 000
Awash In Time @awashintime.bsky.social · 11/02/2025“What if the bank goes under? 188 years is a long time.” “We are assured that both Barclays and Coutts remain in operation in your time.” He’s right, they do. “I choose Coutts.” If they were good enough for the Queen, they will be great for me. 010
Awash In Time @awashintime.bsky.social · 11/02/2025“A hundred pounds to ship a package across thousands of miles? That makes no sense." “You’re forgetting 188 years of compound interest.” Oh, that’s more interesting. “How will that work?” “We deposit the money in a bank, you pick up the payment plus accrued interest in 2025.” 000
Awash In Time @awashintime.bsky.social · 11/02/2025“How quickly can you get a package to India?” “Less than a week, but why would I want to do that? “Because I’ll pay you." “How much? “One hundred pounds.” 000
Awash In Time @awashintime.bsky.social · 09/02/2025A pleasant walk through St. James’s Park in 1837 to the Brooks's club. Questioned at the door about my membership, said I was here to see the time master. Escorted to his workshop, full of clocks. He takes one look at me and says, “What year are you from?” 010
Awash In Time @awashintime.bsky.social · 08/02/2025On my way to Brooks’s in tail coat, vest and top hat. The closest tube stop is St. James’s and then it’s a short walk through the park. London is wonderful, I’m travelling in 2025 wearing 1837 clothing and nobody pays attention. That wouldn’t work the other way around. 010
Awash In Time @awashintime.bsky.social · 08/02/2025“How do I become a time courier?" “It’s simple, go to Brooks's in 1837. It’s a member’s club, but they'll let you in if you’re well dressed and ask for the time master.” “The Victorians had a time master?” “No they can’t time travel, just us. The members think he takes care of the clocks.” 000
Awash In Time @awashintime.bsky.social · 07/02/2025“What’s in your bag from 1890?” “Don’t know, they never tell me. This is a very secretive courier service. “ Hmm, time couriers? Interesting. “Do you know what’s in your bag?” “Yes, my lunch. I’m not a courier” That surprised him. 010
Awash In Time @awashintime.bsky.social · 06/02/2025Talking to a potential time traveller in my present, “I know we are both from now, when did you just come from?” Response, “The past, same as you.” This is getting frustrating. “But I move through time faster than most.” This time I get a meaty reply, “Me too, I've just come from 1890.” 010
Awash In Time @awashintime.bsky.social · 06/02/2025Hanging around King’s Cross when I see man carrying a handcuffed bag, striding purposefully, wearing late a 1800’s suit. I walk towards him with my bag visible, and ask, “When are you from?” The response, “The present, just like you.” 000
Awash In Time @awashintime.bsky.social · 06/02/2025English history seems to like the letter R. Reformation Restoration Regency 000
Awash In Time @awashintime.bsky.social · 05/02/2025Travelling the tube in London with my handcuffed bag. Decided to wear clothes that are very new, as if I am trying to fit in, but don't. It doesn't really work. London was much more homogenous in 1867. 000
Awash In Time @awashintime.bsky.social · 05/02/2025Somebody is using time travellers to courier information or small objects. I saw it on a train in 1867. A man with period costume but with a modern handcuff attached to his bag. Maybe I should just travel the trains with a handcuffed bag and see if anybody approaches me. 000
Awash In Time @awashintime.bsky.social · 03/02/2025Ha! I read the website from the last post more closely. Those top history moments were chosen by children. I should have taken more history in school! I will continue to look for more time tourist destinations. 100
Awash In Time @awashintime.bsky.social · 03/02/2025Top time tourist destinations from London. Heritage England has a top 10 moments from history list. Battle of Hastings, too bloody. Battle of Waterloo, bloody and spread out. The Black Death, bloody dangerous. Perhaps Queen Victoria’s coronation? www.english-heritage.org.uk/learn/histor...english-heritage.org.ukTop 10 Moments from HistoryTo mark 950 years since the Battle of Hastings, we teamed up with illustrator and author Liz Pichon to create a modern day Bayeux Tapestry, showcasing the top ten moments from history since 1066. 010
Awash In Time @awashintime.bsky.social · 03/02/2025If I’m going to meet another time traveller I either have to wait for one from the future to show up in my present, or go into the past to look for one. What times are likely to attract time tourists? Really the question should be, "What times and places?" 000
Awash In Time @awashintime.bsky.social · 02/02/2025My timepad allows me to travel between my present and the past and then return. If other travellers have the same capabilities, then they all have different base time frames (or presents). The only way we can interact is in the past, as we all live in a different present. 010
Awash In Time @awashintime.bsky.social · 02/02/2025I arrived in my present moments after the time traveller had vanished. I didn’t want to lose him in King’s Cross. From there he could quickly be anywhere. He was nowhere to be seen. How could that be? Then I realized his base time frame must be different to mine. 000
Awash In Time @awashintime.bsky.social · 02/02/2025Intrigued, I followed the time traveller onto the platform at King’s Cross. I approached him, and asked, “When are you from?” He startled, reached into his pocket, and faded from view. No bright sparks, no noise. He just faded to nothing, returning to the present. I decided to follow. 100
Awash In Time @awashintime.bsky.social · 01/02/2025Why would a time traveller take a train with a package so valuable he needed to be handcuffed to it? Some sort of time courier? Maybe for a message so important it had to travel in a time before it was important? 100
Awash In Time @awashintime.bsky.social · 01/02/2025Taking the train to London 1867. Longer and less comfortable than the trip in 2025. Something stood out, there was a gentleman with good teeth and a new suit. Signs of a potential time traveller. Remarkably he was handcuffed to his new suitcase. With an out-of-time handcuff. 000
Awash In Time @awashintime.bsky.social · 30/01/2025It's time to leave Edinburgh for London. I arrived by train in 2025, but I'm going to leave on this train in 1867. It's going to be so cool! Or, steamy, dirty and noisy. #timetravel 040
Awash In Time @awashintime.bsky.social · 29/01/2025Another brilliant moment in Edinburgh. Just travelling is so much less stressful than time travelling. 010
Awash In Time @awashintime.bsky.social · 29/01/2025Edinburgh is know for grim winter weather, but it can be bright and cheery at the same time. 020
Awash In Time @awashintime.bsky.social · 28/01/2025With views like this it's hard to believe I'm not time travelling. I mostly took this photo because I thought it would make an interesting drawing. It's also fun because, in parts, the laneway is little more than shoulder width. 140
Awash In Time @awashintime.bsky.social · 28/01/2025Trying to avoid my temporal trackers in Edinburgh. They probably can't find me because it's dark! Less than 8 hours of daylight. I have found an interesting pub: The Oxford Bar. 010
Awash In Time @awashintime.bsky.social · 27/01/2025“You can't make footprints in the sands of time if you're sitting on your butt. And who wants to make buttprints in the sands of time?” ― Bob Moawad Words for me to travel by. Getting out of London for spatial relocation. I know it's winter, but I want a short trip. Edinburgh by train it is. 010
Awash In Time @awashintime.bsky.social · 24/01/2025My timepad tells me, "They know when you are." It seems to want to prevent me from being in any one time for long. What if I changed my spatial frame instead of my temporal frame? They might know when I am, but not where I am. Time for a foreign vacation. 010
