I’d advise against the 16in MBP. It’s big and very heavy. Perhaps you can go to a shop to see the difference?

My initial take on this is that yes some of our previous questions are either solved or feel less relevant. But, scaling isn't producing human like intelligence. There are still fascinating questions. How do we learn and compute with so little sample data and energy? for example.

I’ve written this up here. In addition to there not being a Covid-scale drop in tourism recently, you might also be wondering why visits from Mexico seem to double around 2004-05. The answer is not a sudden shift in Mexican preferences but rather our old friend, There Was A Change In The Measure.

The Phantom of Heilbronn, also referred to as the Woman Without a Face, was a presumed female serial killer whose existence was inferred from DNA evidence found at 40 crime scenes across Austria, France and Germany from 1993 to 2009.

In March 2009, investigators concluded that the supposed serial killer did not exist, and the DNA belonged to a woman who worked at a factory that made the cotton swabs used for collecting DNA samples

A song that with a few minor lyric changes and losing some of the top end off the production could've been on The Noise Made By People or So Tough. This is high praise indeed from me, someone who wouldn't have a bar of a band like All Saints normally. One of the best singles of the 21st Century. -

I hate when this happens. And, let me tell you, it happens. It’s a really bad look … omitting prior, highly relevant work is academically inappropriate, especially if it was brought to one’s attention directly. It violates commonly applicable standards and proper process.

Graphical abstract: a ligand (green) binding to an ion channel resolved in antagonist- (blue) and agonist-preferred (orange) states, with state-specific binding free energies ΔG_I and ΔG_A. The right panel shows that the free-energy difference ΔG_A − ΔG_I predicts maximal ligand response, separating agonists (orange dots) from antagonists (blue squares) via a sigmoidal fit.

Quite a few posts about Pachelbel's Canon in D on Bluesky tonight, for a reason I do not wish to know. I hate very few pieces of music; but this is one of them. That banal, ugly, offensively dull chord progression can go to hell, and every song which borrowed it too. AI music before AI.

We Manchester City fans fear relegation and losing trophies … but club are bang to rights
Despite attempts to legally filibuster the charges out of existence for the past three years, we’ve rightfully failed It couldn’t have been more prophetic. In 2008, 15 years before Manchester City were charged with financial fraud, fans started singing “City’s going down with a billion in the bank” to the tune of Yellow Submarine. This was because the former Thailand president Thaksin Shinawatra’s 15-month ownership of City had come to an abrupt end when more than £1bn of his assets were frozen. And although Sheikh Mansour of the UAE had stepped in to save City, we were sinking fast. Despite the UAE’s untold riches, by December we were in the relegation zone. It’s called Cityitis – shorthand for our tendency to self-destruct when things appear to be going well. In fact we won trophy after trophy. But we continued to sing the song about going down with a billion in the bank. When the financial fair play investigation was launched in 2018, the chant got louder. Then in 2023 we learned there were more than 100 charges. The chant became even louder and more cavalier. And now that our grubby, griftin’, cheatin’ chicken has come home to roost, you can bank on one thing (if banks still deal with us) – the chanting will be louder and more cavalier than ever.
