Related to conferences, I had a great time at Stancon this year, partly because it was the first conference I'd been to in awhile where everyone wasn't talking about AI constantly. I think @mc-stan.org attracts people who care about carefully expressing ideas through code.

We’re all wrestling with AI changing the ground beneath our feet. But as data people, we’ve always worked where people, data, and decisions meet, and we know how messy that space is. We're better positioned than most to recognize our value as humans, because we still matter. A lot.

At conf I saw so many humans sharing ideas, showing each other how to write and use new tools, new packages, new #RStats and #Python code. We may not be writing or reading code in the same way, but we're still out there building tools for each other, trying to solve big and important problems.

I write manuscripts in Quarto. When I need to render to DOCX, I tend to use the flextable package for tables. Had the least problems with it in the DOCX outputs. Still a pain for more complex stuff like embedding images in cells (I blame DOCX, not flextable). What's your preferred way?

As another alternative to the standard forest plot for visualizing many effect size estimates in a meta-analysis, one can use 'orchard plots' (Nakagawa et al., 2021). Example code to create such figures can be found here: www.metafor-project.org/doku.php/plo... #MetaAnalysis #RStats
