I think this will have the opposite of its intended effect by raising the salience of health care just as people are seeing next year’s skyrocketing premiums with open enrollment starting tomorrow some people are going to see their premium jump by that much *per month*

Very glad SuperFastMatt is giving SendCutSend more attention. Cool company, great vision, real pioneers in manufacturing. When I get hyped about American Manufacturing, it's my friends with small, automated shops and companies like SCS. Plus, Sour Patch Kids in every shipment. youtu.be/WavgGoGk034

In 2018, Annalinda Martinez and her daughters became homeless. She went to Georgia's child welfare agency looking for help finding housing. Instead, the state took her children. Then DFCS began charging her for their foster care. Those bills eventually left her $13,000 in debt.

Georgia removed her kids because she was homeless. The state is charging her $13,000 for foster care
Georgia is among several states that have moved away from charging parents for their kids' time in foster care. But parents who already owe money for past cases are still on the hook.

The bond yield story just keeps getting starker.
Line chart titled "10-Year Treasury Note" showing the yield on the 10-year Treasury note from late 2025 through September 2026. Treasury yields surged dramatically to 5.29 percent on September 29, 2026, the highest level in the period shown. This represents a sharp 130 basis point increase from the October 2025 low of 3.96 percent and a particularly rapid 45 basis point climb over just the final month. After trading mostly between 4.00 and 4.75 percent for nearly a year, yields broke decisively above 5.00 percent in September 2026, signaling a fundamental shift in borrowing costs and market conditions.

Yeah, Schmitt is lucky there’s a Speech or Debate Clause. This is inexcusable. Klobuchar focused on the “dirtbag” claim in Schmitt’s conclusion, but Schmitt also said to Smith, “I think you’ve already perjured yourself.”

the ice coffee thing reminds me of some academics judging whether a grad student takes their defense seriously based on how dressed up they are. the whole point of a defense/interview is to have a solid opportunity for in-depth evaluation so you don't have to resort to thin-sliced heuristic signals.

It's pretty common for people to dismiss parents who struggle helping their kids with common core math. But the problem is really a terminology thing. Your kid comes home with this worksheet and there's no explanation to the parent what "make a 10" means. And the kid can't remember!
Threads post from a person confused about her grandson's 2nd grade math homework.

The question says "Make a 10 to subtract. Write two subtraction equations to show how you can find 15 - 7"

1: For every hour you travel from the nearest clinic, the odds of detecting an outbreak decreases by about 1/3. 👉 For policymakers: the best thing we can do to catch and intercept spillovers before they become epidemics is build rural clinics and pay for diagnostic machines and supplies.
