My latest books cartoon for @theguardian.com
Title: Just announced! Three new Gruffalo books commissioned from bestselling authors!

Lee Chilld:
The Gruffalo just wants a quiet life, but when a crime syndicate moves into the deep dark wood, he must use his terrible claws and the terrible teeth in his terrible jaws to protect the fellow.

Sally Rooney:
The Gruffalo moves to contemporary Dublin. He
ill ever see past his orange eyes, purple prickles and poisonous wart.

Kazuo Ishiguro:
After a long absence, the gruffalo returns to the forest and attempts to make sense of his past. Encounters with a mouse, a fox, an owl and a snake uncover long-buried memories, regrets and revelations.

Although it feels like I am shouting into the void about this sometimes, I want to share some further thoughts on the “Zionism is Racism” motion which the Green Party is due to debate in the next 16 hours. Just to address various points which I think people in general should know. A thread:

“If you had shown me the Greens before Polanski versus now, as two static pictures, it looks like massive progress. But because his ambition and rhetoric got a little cocky and out of control in early 2026, he's now having to rein it in, and they've ended up looking like they're on the back foot.”

Just listened. Absolutely spot-on analysis. They sound like they've spent *a lot* of time talking among themselves without once talking a moment to check in with the world outside... ...then, when they are finally confronted with external reality, they loudly tell everyone else they're wrong.

People pushing exclusionary ethnic definitions are very unlikely to be doing so out of pure academic interest. They want to start excluding people.

In the 2008 US Presidential election, total election spending, by all parties and donors was $1.7bn. In 2026 so far, not even a Presidential election year, spending by billionaires ALONE has topped that. We obviously welcome the billionaire class's control of our political landscape...
News headline about megadonors pouring more than $1.7 billion into the 2026 elections; callout reads "The 50 biggest donors have contributed $1,775,999,110 during the 2026 midterm cycle so far" with a bar segmented 454M (blue), 1.07B (red), 248M (gray).

"It is hard enough to be a carer for your own loved ones. The tenderness I dispensed to my mother, came from a battery she had charged with five decades of love. Being able to muster the energy and patience it takes to care for a complete stranger... Well, it's magical. It's a sort of superpower."

Spot on. This motion relies on a piece of linguistic chicanery. By setting a very narrow & not particularly widespread* definition of "Zionism", they are trying to undermine perfectly reasonable Jewish people. * Widespread in the further reaches of left bloc politics, but, crucially, not elsewhere.

Brexit wasn't just won on racism and xenophobia, though that helped. It was won because Leave could promise the earth and lie without consequence, while Remain had to argue a negative. That structural asymmetry decided it. 🧵 @mrjamesob.bsky.social @lbc.co.uk

Brilliant from Crick, but he should have gone further. Ian Gow was Thatcher's PPS, then Housing Minister, as Right to Buy peaked in 1984. A 2013 Mirror investigation found his son Charles Gow & wife owned at least 40 ex-council flats on one London estate, which they leased at huge rents. 🧵 #C4News
