Exciting new preprint from Ignacio Vega Vásquez, Sauer lab, my team and collaborators: #Mega-ExM. From just ~20 NPCs imaged with a 10× objective on a confocal, we reconstructed the 3D structure at ~33 Å. A step toward optical structural biology in intact cells. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

#congratulations to Janna, Markus and the team! By combining 8× expansion with #dSTORM, we resolved the 8 nm spacing between neighboring tubulin molecules and revealed ~44 nm RIM/Munc13-1 rings in neurons. Thank you for letting us contribute a small part. story: rdcu.be/fwBYY #cool #imaging #tiny

Sharing a big update: I started a group at the MPINAT in Göttingen! We will develop AI for analyzing how proteins interact in the cellular environment based on cutting edge imaging. This appointment is in parallel to the university, where I will retain my current group.

You know how in The Expanse, the protomolecule disassembles and spreads out all the component parts of a thing in place? Expansion microscopy is a tiny bit like that in concept, though the only part that remains on expansion is the fluorescent tag you attached to the thing you wanted to look at.
