Like a scene in January after your favourite Auntie discovered the box canvas festive BOGOF (buy one, get one free) deal...and she's coming round to visit! Quick help me put them up. Stick Great Uncle Dick up at the top (sorry, couldn't resist), Cousin Cecil on his grey steed below, and Skinny Lil to the left...yes that looks quite funny, like Cecil's about to charge her. Inebriated Max top left, like he was propped up in the corner chair on Christmas Day next to the Twiglets. Don't even know half of these people! Hang on, isn't that Auntie's next door neighbour Maude on that one? Doesn't matter, let's whack her up, we've only got ten mins before Auntie arrives and I haven't got the spuds in the oven yet.

Photo of the backyard from June 2019 when we still had flowers instead of grass. Two adult, but youngish, deer are in the photo too, looking at the camera. One deer is a buck with small fuzzy antlers, and the other one is a doe.
Flowers include pink coneflowers, white coneflowers, and a soft yellow coreopsis. Tall weeds in the back and crabgrass are visible too. Definitely very jungle looking.

Our black-and-white photograph captures a quiet, overgrown woodland scene with a strong sense of age and mystery.

In the foreground, a narrow gravel or stone path enters from the lower left corner and curves gently into the trees.

Alongside it stands an old stone structure, partly concealed by dense vegetation. Its rough, dark stone walls are weathered and uneven, with several small rectangular openings covered by what appear to be aged wooden shutters or doors.

The structure extends across the middle of the image, while above it, crumbling sections of stonework rise among the undergrowth, showing the remains of an old building.

Ferns, ivy, bushes and other plants have grown extensively over the walls, reclaiming much of the structure.

Tall mature trees surround the ruins, their branches and leaves forming a dense canopy overhead. Soft daylight filters through the foliage from the upper centre of the image, creating pale shafts of light and gentle highlights against the deep shadows.

The monochrome treatment emphasises the textures of the rough stone, tangled vegetation and ancient woodland.

I find photographing flowers very uplifting. When I was younger, doing creative work helped me cope. These days it feels much lighter. (I guess it worked?) Passiflora 'Susan Brigham' under UV light.
