"Ageratum blooms from spring through autumn, producing very fluffy, paniculate flower clusters. Its tiny, pom-pom-like blooms offer long-lasting, cheerful color—shades of violet, purple, blue, pink, and white.
Flowering ageratum is an excellent source of nectar for butterflies, hoverflies, and bees, especially since the blooms can persist until late autumn. Its leaves are rarely eaten by insects or mammals, as they have an unpleasant taste and are even slightly toxic—for instance, by disrupting insect molting cycles.
Indigenous peoples used the leaf sap to treat cuts and minor wounds; indeed, modern research has confirmed the plant's antibacterial properties. However, it was even more commonly used as a repellent against mosquitoes and biting midges—simply by rubbing the leaves onto the skin."
