#thecampfire I'm going to talk about connection today. Not necessarily a love story for one person but for humanity. There are times in this world, more than I care to acknowledge, that one can feel totally alone. Totally disconnected from the people around them. Like you are an outsider to it.

#TheCampfire This is an affection about a man across the street living in an apartment above a garage. I start with a wood fire pizza from his favorite restaurant, The Black Pelican. Mark, a ferocious reader of books, all star griper of change and tender in spots ⬇️ alt
if you glimpsed through his rough, died on October 1st.
I don’t even know his last name, but we had many good talks while sitting on his small side porch. His gravel and grit voice punctuated with coughs, held court with stories from youth, complaints about society changing before he could grasp the changes and books. He’d never reply to a text, but call and he’d pick up with a what’s going on.
In the everyday coming and going he always had a book so I started leaving books which I thought would be of interest to him. The best he had to say was, I wouldn’t have picked this up, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thanks for bringing it over.
His most famous gripe, out of a never ending stream, was this street is full of old people in by 5. I reminded him that we were old too and he simply replied, yeah, but we’re still outside.
So there will be no more books to share, waves of hello goodbye or hearing the new gripe. He has left on the edge of fall when the light starts to wane early and the mighty oaks begin their shedding and we’re all in by 5.

“The music you love when you're a teenager is always going to be the most important to you.” - Lin-Manuel Miranda on Fresh Air, WHYY, January 2017 #TheCampfire #TheBeatles #music Story in ALT.
The cover illustration of my book, "Leadership Lessons with The Beatles".

#Campfire
A Lifelong Love of The Beatles

I was 17 years old when I first listened to The Beatles and fell in love with the music.
While studying engineering, I stayed in a women’s hostel. The resident student advisor was the only one with a radio, and some of us begged her to use it on Saturday nights when the Listener’s Choice program came on All India Radio, Madras. The Beatles’ songs from the program sounded magical. A lifelong fan was born. When my family in Madurai bought a record player, I jumped with joy. I could buy my favorite records with my scholarship money and take them home during holidays to play and share with my sisters. When my husband, daughter, and I left for the United States, I packed the few records I had between my sarees, and I still have them today in my stereo cabinet. Over the years, I have bought the box set of all their albums on vinyl and CDs, and their songs dominate my Spotify playlist. I never saw The Beatles in person. I don’t regret it, though. There is something intimate about listening to them alone, without all the noise and hoopla associated with live performances. When I turned 60, I asked my family to celebrate it at Cirque du Soleil’s “Love” show based on The Beatles, in Las Vegas. It was a memorable experience.
Now in my seventies, I love their music as much as I loved it when I was a teenager.
When my granddaughter was old enough, I introduced her to Strawberry Fields Forever so we could sing along in the car. Instead of being annoying, her repeated requests to listen to it delighted me. Now her twin brothers have become huge fans as well. The love continues.

“Green Tea” by Leonora Carrington (British) - Oil on canvas / 1942 - Museum of Modern Art (New York, NY) #WomenInArt #WomensArt #LeonoraCarrington #Carrington #Surrealism #BritishArt #MoMA #ModernArt #art #artText #arte #painting #BritishArtist #MuseumOfModernArt #1940sArt #WomanArtist #WomenArtists
British artist Leonora Carrington painted “Green Tea” during a turbulent period of displacement and reinvention. After Nazi authorities imprisoned her partner, artist Max Ernst, during World War II, Carrington fled France for Spain. There she experienced a psychological crisis and was confined against her will in a psychiatric institution in Santander, where she underwent harsh treatments. She later escaped her family’s plans for further institutionalization, traveled to New York, and painted this work shortly afterward.

Across a strangely manicured green landscape, a solitary woman stands wrapped from shoulders to ankles in black-and-white, cowhide-like fabric. Her arms disappear beneath the constricting folds, while her pale, masklike face and bare feet remain exposed. Beside her, four small antlered heads rise from a purple vessel. Farther right, a reddish doglike creature and a white horse are tethered to slender trees that seem to grow from their own elongated tails. Behind them stretches an intricate countryside of hedges, paths, miniature trees, towers, and distant fantastic structures beneath a blue sky. Along the bottom edge, the earth appears sliced open, revealing a shadowy underground realm inhabited by bats, birds, bodies, and mysterious cocoons.

The bound central figure has often been interpreted as Carrington herself. Its enveloping garment evokes both protection and restraint, making the surrounding open landscape feel paradoxically inaccessible. The white horse carries particular autobiographical resonance: horses recur throughout Carrington’s art and writing as figures of freedom, transformation, and rebellious energy. Here, however, even the horse is chained.

The serene English-looking countryside coexists with impossible animals, ritualistic objects, and an ominous world literally beneath the surface. The painting embodies a central Surrealist impulse: ordinary appearances conceal unruly inner realities.

#RockinTuesday #ColorADay #BlueTue #TidesOutTuesday Bluffs Trail at Montaña De Oro State Park, California. #ECK #Hiking #MontañaDeOro #WestCoastKin #LandscapePhotography #Geology
Sedimentary rocks form the cliffs and bluffs along the ocean at Montaña De Oro State Park in Los Osos, California. An inlet leads to a cave into the seaside bluff. Layers of different colored and textured rock make up the bluff. Above the cave is more rock, and a few (very small) people are walking the trail which gives one a sense of scale. In the distance is Valencia Peak and light blue sky; there is a little bit of marine mist which mutes the colors.

Still Waters Run Deep Not a ripple on the water, so the ridge gets to show up twice. Hard to beat a calm lake. #EastCoastKin #Photography #ClassicMono #Fuji #PhotographersofBlueSky #PhotographersUnited #LandscapePhotography #Dolomites #Italy #ECK
A black-and-white landscape of a still mountain lake. A pale, sunlit limestone ridge with three main peaks runs across the upper left and center of the frame, rising above dark conifer forest that covers the lower slopes down to the water's edge. The sky is nearly black and lightens slightly toward the right edge, where the forest drops to a lower treeline. The lake is flat enough to mirror the ridge almost exactly: the peaks reappear inverted below the shoreline, a little darker than the originals, with the forest reflected as a band of fine vertical texture. In the lower right, a bank of dark pebbles and small stones slopes into the water, with a few lighter, flat rocks near the bottom edge. The lower left is open, dark water.

The horizon sits close to the middle of the frame, so the image rests on near-symmetry rather than thirds, with the shoreline acting as a mirror axis. Tonal range carries the composition: bright peaks against a black sky above, a dark foreground below, and a narrow band of mid-tones in the forest between them. The heavy, textured pebble shore anchors the lower right and keeps the reflection from floating free, while the black sky isolates the ridge. The mood is quiet and severe, closer to a study of stillness and doubling than a scenic view.

Clear Water Revival How cool is water this clear. Five ducks cruising the shallows under a limestone ridge, the gravel visible all the way out. #EastCoastKin #Photography #Fuji #PhotographersofBlueSky #PhotographersUnited #Landscapephotography
A vertical landscape of a clear alpine lake, seen from the gravel shore. Pale gray gravel fills the lower third of the frame, with two weathered gray rocks near the left edge and dark shadows falling across the stones. Beyond the gravel, the shallows shift from sandy tan to translucent turquoise and then deeper green, and five brown ducks swim in a loose line across the right half of the water. A bright strip of white logs and stones marks the shoreline at left. Across the lake, a steep slope of dark green conifers rises to a pale limestone ridge with a jagged central peak, set against a deep blue, cloudless sky.

The image is built as stacked bands of gravel, translucent water, dark forest, pale rock and sky, each distinct in value and temperature, so the eye climbs from the foreground to the summit. The diagonal shadow in the lower left leads toward the water, where the ducks, warm brown against cool teal, supply the scale and the one point of life. The clarity of the water, which lets the lake bed read as a texture of its own, is as much the subject as the ridge. The picture sits within the familiar alpine-lake tradition and is set apart by the animals and the shadowed foreground.

Beach geometry. High-angle view of Santa Marta at golden hour. Parallel diagonal rows of blue canopy tents cross the pale sand beside calm silvery water, and palms line the promenade, documenting coastal daily life from above #luiscordobapharchive #caribbean #santamarta #scape #beach
Horizontal orientation high-angle photograph of a Caribbean beach in Santa Marta, Colombia, seen from a tall building at golden hour. Long diagonal rows of bright royal-blue canopy tents with white plastic chairs run in parallel lines across a wide stretch of pale sand. In the upper right, calm sea water carries soft gold and silver reflections, with small waves breaking along the shoreline where swimmers and bathers wade. People are scattered across the sand, and a blue walkway crosses the beach on the left. Palm trees line the promenade at the left edge, next to the corner of a purple building. Warm, soft light emphasizes the repeating geometry of the tents against the natural textures of sand and water. Optimized for Santa Marta aerial beach photography, Caribbean coast tourism, geometric beach patterns, and Colombian coastal daily life indexing.

Forgotten River Path Old Course Saco River Lovell, Maine 2026 #ClassicMono #ECK #Photography #Mono #LandscapePhotography #River #Trees #Maine #ThreeWordGenre
Mono image of still water with trees and their reflections, looking from a shady area into sun on the trees.
The Saco River runs from Saco Lake in Crawford Notch in the White Mountains in New Hampshire, through Maine, to the Atlantic at Saco Bay.
In the early 1800's, a 6 mile long canal was dug that shortened the river, bypassing many twists and turns. The canal made it easier for farmers to transport goods to markets.
The Old Course Saco River is the 21.9 remnant waterway that twists through Fryeburg and Lovell. The upriver entrance is largely silted over, but there is still some water that runs through, providing recreation like fishing and boating.
