Just one more day, folks. NIH is proposing changes to the peer-review process for research grants. In five minutes or less, you can let the NIH know what you think about their proposal. Not sure what to say or or to say it? We've got you! See our previous posts for recommendations.

If you are an NIH funded scientist and have not commented, you are agreeing that this change is a good idea. If, you, like me, think ditching peer review is a bad idea, take the 5 minutes and post a comment.

The goal of this rule change is to make grant review impact and percentile scores opaque, so that political interference with grant funding decisions by Trump apparatchiks is harder to detect or document. I submitted my comment in opposition last night. You should submit yours today.

It's 1880 & Europe is besieged by a silent killer: lobar pneumonia. It had a case fatality rate between 30-50%, could spread rapidly through families. In the absence of a better understanding of it, treatment could be anything from bed rest to bloodletting. Our focus: two men in a morgue.
A painting: "An Autopsy", an 1890 oil-on-canvas painting by Spanish artist Enrique Simonet.

Two men in hats examine a corpse covered in a sheet, while another corpse, partially covered, sits on an autopsy bed.
