How are mitotic chromosomes built? Our Review @cp-trendsgenetics.bsky.social revisits the classical chromosome scaffold model and connects it to condensins, topoIIα, and physical forces. We propose interphase chromatin domains as “building blocks”🧩of chromosomes: authors.elsevier.com/a/1nmwrcQbJI...

Beautiful paper by Akshay Jayachandran @cejkalab.bsky.social and co-workers delineating the functional divergence of yeast and human PIF1. It was a pleasure making a small contribution to the study @gdsc-sussex.bsky.social @sussex.ac.uk! www.genesdev.org/cgi/doi/10.1....
Schematic showing that human PIF1 clears secondary DNA structures by coupled DNA unwinding and rewinding activities while not driving D-loop progression like yeast Pif1.

Biochemical reconstitution of sister chromatid cohesion establishment during DNA replication
Genome inheritance during cell divisions relies on replicated sister DNAs being connected by cohesin rings. Minamino et al. reconstitute sister chromatid cohesion establishment during DNA replication using purified budding yeast proteins. The experiments yield molecular insight into more than one way in which sister chromatid cohesion can be built.
