As I've been hosting workshops on housing, a point I regularly bring up is desegregation was once a goal, but now its largely forgotten or ignored. Reactions to this have been surprising, but has reaffirmed my belief that desegregation has to be the goal again for housing advocates.

There's a family of 3 in SF who are downsizing from a 2 bed in Noe Valley to a studio in the TL & is documenting the experience online. One of the reasons they're doing this is to save money and cut down on their commute. Here's what the SF Tenant's Union had to say about that.

So my friendly neighborhood archnemesis hates the bike lanes going up in Downtown Oakland. Personally I do think the design can be better but the bike lanes provide a level of safety that wasn't there before. Now if Oakland really wanted to see some progress they should start removing some parking.

I have successfully fought freeway expansions in California and I can tell you why there isn't money in the pot for that. Transportation dollars go to expanding car dependent infrastructure and maintaining that infrastructure. It is very expensive to maintain roads designed for cars.
