This is a triggering image of a museum display in the natural history museum in DC about life before smartphones. Me and a fellow 40+ person were laughing at how we are now LITERAL MUSEUM PIECES. MY teen was like did you have a clear phone? An address book? A book of maps. Yes, yes I did. 🫠🫠🫠

I'm just going to keep saying this until I die: In a white supremacist patriarchy, you have value only insofar as you serve the white supremacist patriarchy. Kyle Rittenhouse & Ashli Babbitt did. Renee Good & Alex Pretti didn't. On Jan 6, the insurrectionists did. The cops didn't. Rinse, repeat.

Wondering why no one likes your posts anymore, even among your friends? It's because @jay.bsky.team and team have decided to hide a huge amount of content from all of our feeds by default. Here's how to turn it off. First go to the hamburger menu in the upper left corner

it just fills me with so much joy forever that the first #garashir shippers were the #DS9 actors themselves 🙏🏻 🏳️‍🌈
screenshot of an image post by tumblr user gay-david-tennant:
collecting these like shiny stones.

screenshot 1:
TZN: I have got another reader question here, that touches a different subject. Did you know that there is speculation about Garak's sexuality?
Robinson: Oh, yeah. I started it.

screenshot two: a series of stills of andy robinson being interviewed during rhe DS9 documentary. ira steven behr asks andy,, “what did garak think of bashir?” andy answers, “at first he just wanted to have sex with him, that’s absolutely clear.”

screenshot three:
"... then the next thing that happened was when I walked on set to do the very first scene with Sid [Alexander Siddig, aka Bashir], I saw Sid, and he was one of the most beautiful young men I have ever seen in my life, and I thought 'wait a second... wait a second... I wanna fuck this guy, this is what this is about. Yaknow, forget about the spy shit, I have no idea what that means. That's no action, you can't play that, but I can play if I wanna get... I wanna fuck somebody, I know how to play that. [...) And then Sid, God bless him, cuz the moment I put my hand on his shoulder and I... he felt it, and he picked it right up."

Whew, this conclusion from the Fourth Circuit: "We yet cling to the hope that it is not naïve to believe our good brethren in the Executive Branch perceive the rule of law as vital to the American ethos."
It is, as we have noted, all too possible to see in this case an incipient crisis, but it
may present an opportunity as well. We yet cling to the hope that it is not naïve to believe
our good brethren in the Executive Branch perceive the rule of law as vital to the American
ethos. This case presents their unique chance to vindicate that value and to summon the
best that is within us while there is still time.
In sum, and for the reasons foregoing, we deny the motion for the stay pending
appeal and the writ of mandamus in this case. It is so ordered.

I got laid off today, with the rest of 18F. 18F was an elite federal software shop. We made gov't websites work better, more efficiently for the American people. We saved taxpayers from getting screwed over by contractors. And were fired for it. We made this website to tell our story: 18f.org

This is, I gather, a general problem — Federal employees taking new roles often go back to "probationary" status no matter how long they've been in their prior role, so blanket layoffs of probationary folks are actually taking out a lot of long-term institutional experience

3 things I did this morning to try and help, in case they inspire you to do similar things in your area: 1. Set up a small monthly donation to Wikipedia and Internet Archive. As websites get doctored or scrubbed, keeping records becomes even more important. These are 2 places trying to do that.

the death of 18F/USDS is much sadder than losing something like direct file. USDS grew out of the team that helped fix healthcare.gov, and was a team dedicated towards recruiting tech talent to taking on deeply complicated tech debt in the government. The loss of USDS is an end of an era.
