New literature review on housing ladder spillovers: When rich tech workers move in, low-end rents go up. So does it follow that adding high-end homes would reduce them? Yes. Changes at the top of the ladder can propagate down and affect prices at the bottom. 1/

AI makes children better at doing their homework but 20% stupider so it's impossible to say whether it's good or not
Using 30 months of panel data on 26,811 Chinese students in grades 7-12, we study how generative AI affects homework productivity and learning. The data combine monthly closed-book exams, high-school and college entrance exams, and homework scores and completion time across nine subjects. We exploit staggered AI adoption in a difference-in-differences design. AI adoption raises homework scores by 18% and reduces completion time by 30%, but lowers monthly exam scores by 20% within six months. High-stakes entrance-exam scores fall by 18 and 24%, with the full penalty emerging only after about two years. The losses are largest in social science subjects, followed by STEM and languages, and are especially large for junior students, high-achieving students, and boys. The learning losses are concentrated among roughly 80% of AI users whose behavior is consistent with homework outsourcing, as indicated by exceptionally short homework completion time coupled with high homework scores. AI users who maintain similar homework completion time as non-AI users experience small learning losses.

i think the path of least resistance to universal coverage is a pincer movement (perhaps a…temporal pincer movement). you raise medicaid eligibility and lower medicare eligibility while also providing robust subsidies through obamacare. (de facto public option)

Already seeing advice from punditocracy that Dems ought to tack to the right to (ironically) raise the saliency and affirm the positions of Republicans on so-called "cultural issues." Let's ask Keir Starmer how well this worked - I hear he has loads of free time.

Housing is expensive because we do not have enough homes. Affordable housing requirements in new buildings worsen this problem by raising the cost of development. This policy trades broad affordability for a handful of means-tested units for lottery winners. It is bad and we should stop doing it.

Effectively declares that the Constitutional Convention, the Federalist Papers, Washington, Adams, other presidents, centuries of jurisprudence, and many others were wrong about the presidency, and that the only ones who ever understood it correctly were Richard Nixon, Donald Trump, and their fans.

As I’ve said before, any serious attempt to ban conversion practices in Britain has to confront the fact that the NHS never stopped doing it. This draft bill not only fails, it explicitly gives “healthcare providers” permission to continue.

Starmer’s resignation is a warning, but we’ve run this experiment at home. Sinema, Golden, and Fetterman made the same bet: that poll-tested moderation is a safe harbor. All saw their support crater. In a moment like this, tacking right isn’t the safe play, it’s the thing that sinks you.

I'm open to being corrected but my perception from abroad is that there is very little Keir Starmer did during his tenure that could not have been a Rishi Sunak policy. If you sweep away a wildly unpopular government and then emulate it, you will eventually inherit their unpopularity and then some.

People will make all types of
assumptions about what I was, so I’m going to make that info clear here. I am a
straight male. I am certainly not left wing, nor am I right wing especially not with
Maga or Trump, politically I’d call myself a Third Positionist specifically aligning
most with Nationalist Socialism and Eco Fascism though any Third Positionism
especially those that prioritize its people, nationalism, racial homogeneity, nature,
traditionalist ideals, etc. is one I agree with and would follow. What was I
religiously? Doesn’t matter, really at the end of the day as a friend once said, my
religion is the white race.
