this matches my experience, but the stats are not very persuasive. “at least one AI-related incident in 6 months”? everything is AI-related if everyone is using AI all the time, which they are in many places

As a pragmatic centrist, I read the Niemöller poem differently. After each group mentioned I pencil in what percentage of the population they are, and if it’s a small number I cross off their names as disposable. Poetry is fine but math wins elections!!

This is why I don’t take the “being anti data centre construction is dumb because all of our tech infrastructure needs data centres to operate” claim seriously. These companies all had net zero emissions goals that they were roughly on track to hit until 2022-ish!

I pointed to my tits and said that I do in fact have breasts. She looked at them, paused, and said yes I can see that.

AI is a marketing term; before we discuss "AI is fake" vs "AI is real" we need to unfold what we *mean* by AI. For example, "artificial general intelligence" is fake and can't hurt you. Layoffs excused by "AI efficiency" are real and can hurt you. Linkedin discourse is fake - but it CAN hurt you.
Auto-complete: real, can't hurt you
Super-intelligence: not real, can't hurt you
Layoffs: real, can hurt you
LinkedIn: not real, can hurt you.
