Trump is going to try to normalize the deployment of armed federal agents at and around the polls. Let us be clear: this is completely abnormal. “The risk here is that they are going to try to wage a campaign of fear,” Marc Elias says. This isn’t over. Stay close: demdock.com/3T3Owjg

Seems like some version of this runs every day
Like many of her neighbors, Ms. Vuittonet had been worried about the streams of new immigrants coming across the Rio Grande during the Biden administration and had trusted that Mr. Trump would stop them. Although some Trump supporters held signs calling for "mass deportations now" during the 2024 campaign, Ms. Vuittonet never thought such deportations would include people she knew who had lived in the United States for decades.
"I knew that he was going to start deporting people, but that he was going to go after bad criminals, like true hardcore criminals, rapists, killers," Ms. Vuittonet said, sitting in the small coffee shop she runs from the back of an antique store.
She thought of her six children, who range from ages 6 to 12. "Of course I want the streets safe."
But when her brother was taken to an immigration detention center earlier this year, just days after a scheduled check-in with an immigration official, she said it felt like a punch to the gut.

I have long found fragments of ancient artifacts to be fascinating - like a piece of a missing jigsaw puzzle. Here we have a brilliantly colored fragment of a faience statuette of the goddess Venus, rising from the sea, wringing out her hair (Aphrodite-Venus Anadyomene). #MetMuseum 🏺 1/ 📸 me
The missing lower portion of this intensely blue-green faience statuette makes it difficult to determine if the woman depicted was clothed. However, her preserved left hand, which pulls back her hair, recalls the gesture of Venus after she emerged newly born from the sea - Aphrodite/Venus Anadyomene - the subject of a famous Greek sculptural type of the third to second century BCE. Some other faience statuettes of Venus Anadyomene still exist, such as the one at the Brooklyn Museum, in which the goddess is naked (she is always naked in this type of sculpture, as she's rising from the sea or her bath).

Roman, late 1st century BCE-early 1st century CE.

Height: 5 5/16 in. (13.4 cm)

Wow. “Barron calmly explained that love, far from mandating kindness, can and often should be harsh. This is a classic right-wing talking point: Conservatives have long argued that refusing to offer social-welfare programs, for example, is a way of teaching the dignity of self-reliance“

When Biden tripped, the media replayed it, analyzed it, and talked about it for months. When Trump falls asleep in the Oval Office every day, networks don’t even cover it. It’s only on social media. Same presidency, very different media coverage.
