“It is brutally simple logic. War crimes are what Russia has going for it technologically and militarily at present. Moreover, the Russians have seen from earlier US and European responses that they can commit extreme war crimes and nothing will change.”

And this framing leans right into that stupid thing Reagan said that has been pushing us to where we are 46 years later. FDR, Ike, JFK, LBJ, even fucking NIXON recognized the value of an active government. But sure, let’s continue to erode faith in government, and refuse to name the criminals.

Almost or maybe exactly zero Dem ads (except ours) say Trump corruption or MAGA corruption or Republican corruption. They are all running against “DC corruption”and saying they’ll stand up to both parties. Absolutely idiotic strategy.

After 10 years of cravenly and fraudulently presenting the Know-Nothing Nazified Republican Party as one of two sane, understandable choices, major news organizations are not able to report the obvious, which is that U.S. voters seem to be increasingly coming to their senses. Epic, epic fail.

This is a PERFECT illustration of what I was talking about when I wrote about the “policy trap!” A proposed policy with clear benefits can also have contra-electoral nuances. Policies are like that. Their specificity guarantees that some will (not incorrectly) see the gains as deficits.

I had a conversation w a colleague recently where she pressed me about why there isn't more political science about AI given its importance. A possibility we discussed is that the uncertainty & possibility horizons around it are so huge, it's v hard to say anything that won't make you look foolish.

These institutions will “fail” because of the shitty pay people like child care workers, social workers, and teachers receive. So they and the institutions that train them get hurt further by denying them access to student loans. The only “failure” is a society that undervalues their skills.
