Union workers solved the trolley problem, you're welcome

IWW IU 520 (Railroad Workers) PRESENTS:

TROLLEY PROBLEM SOLUTION

"Slip the switch" by flipping it while the trolley's front wheels have passed through, but before the back wheels do. This will cause a controlled derailment bringing the trolley to a safe halt.

This whole time, the "problem" in the trolley problem was failing to ask a professional, who actually knows what they're doing, to solve it.

This is how Captain Kirk would solve the trolley problem.

They usually frame it where you can push a really fat guy (fat phobia) off a bridge 🌉 to save everyone else. And it is all f**ked up for that reason. How bout if we shoot the driver, and he puts his foot 🦶🏾 on the gas because of decapitation? Then he'd pull forward, proving our case against him.

A very James T Kirk solution, I like it.

multi track drifting!!!!

Anime pages with a train wagon going over two set of railroads (front in one, and back in another), and a shocked man looking at it in shock with some text in Japanese (that translates to "Double track drift!" in English)

What about the people inside the trolley?

I have another, more violent solution! Shoot the guy tying people to tracks before he begins his rampage.

Either that saves everyone or you've done a bloody remix of multi-track train drifting...

I had a debate with a co-worker about the trolley problem. I said I would sabotage the trolley somehow to stop it. He demanded that I had only two choices. I think giving people imaginary binary choices is a sign of a scam

In actual deployment of trolley problem-like claims, it generally turns out there wasn’t really anyone on the other track, but switching to the track that would kill one person was profitable or beneficial to someone with influence over the conductor

Should contemplate a trolley problem where the single person is Jeffrey Epstein or Trump and the many people is those in the Epstein files and the question is who's getting squished? Now that's a moral quandary.

000

GLOSS @glosston.bsky.social · 31/01/2026

OH NO

The trolley has been successfully derailed, however it has turned on its side and taken out both the set of people on the bottom and the solo person on top. The guy who hit the lever still seems kinda happy though...

I think, unfortunately, the U.S. automobile industry solved the trolley problem by clogging the streets with so many cars that it became impossible for trolleys to operate.

The trolley problem really does seem like a good test for seeing if someone can do basic questioning of an arbitrary, false diachomody because it's a thought experiment that falls apart at basic questioning and people get really mad when you do for some reason.
