The fact they banned Chlöe Swarbrick for a week, tone policed her for speaking truth to power on behalf of victims of genocide, and tried to turn the proceedings into a debate about what she was wearing says a great deal more about how much they are afraid of her than any actions she took today.

At some level it’s hilarious that David Seymour is essentially the thing he hates the most - the bureaucrat stereotype of his imagination. He obsesses over petty things, setting up an entire wasteful ministry in pursuit of imagined waste, creates busy work, pushes his ideology into law …

Voting in a democracy is a fundamental right. It doesn’t matter why you might do it last minute on the day, or post it in, or utilise any special vote mechanisms. You don’t need to justify why, to any one. It’s the job of Govt to ensure that all avenues are open - because voting is good. #nzpol

A reminder about the prohibitions in the Geneva Conventions against starving civilians, destroying foodstuffs or drinking water installations, or forcing civilians to move away. Here's the text of Article 54 of Protocol I of the 1977 Geneva Convention (alt-text is embedded in the image):
Article 54 of Protocol I of the 1977 Geneva Convention.
1. Starvation of civilians as a method of warfare is prohibited.
2. It is prohibited to attack, destroy, remove or render useless objects indispensable to the survival of the civilian population, such as food-stuffs, agricultural areas for the production of food-stuffs, crops, livestock, drinking water installations and supplies and irrigation works, for the specific purpose of denying them for their sustenance value to the civilian population or to the adverse Party, whatever the motive, whether in order to starve out civilians, to cause them to move away, or for any other motive.

Then "Why are you interested in the role you have been nominated for?
After decades as a user of the Internet in New Zealand, I’ve decided that now is a good time to take a stronger interest in what makes the internet in Aotearoa unique.

It’s undeniable that the internet is a central part of the lives of New Zealanders, and I strongly believe it’s important that the significance of that is reflected in both the specific policies and management of the .nz namespace as well as, more broadly, the guidance, advice and support that InternetNZ provides. Act Party Facebook post. "Wages shouldn't be based on far-fetched comparisons between different professions. Brooke van Velden MP is restoring common sense to pay equity, allowing claims to progress in cases of genuine sex-based discrimination."

Photo is of a middle aged white woman looking cheerful and carrying books. A young male fisheries officer in a snazzy uniform looks at her. There is an equals sign between them and "This is what Pay Equity looked like under Labour" as a caption
