I've got a good idea for how the BBC should pick the live action show's next showrunner. Ask them how this show fits into canon. If they give any answer other than 'what on earth are you talking about?' 'who cares?' or 'grow up', they are immediately disqualified:

Polanski seems to be promoting an endorsement by a fictional Muslim organisation? Profile set up this month, no other posts, no other mention of them anywhere, some reference to a link to a Green council candidate who was disqualified and an undisclosed 'understanding reached' in return for support.

Sunscreen isn't a 'cosmetic product', it's essential to prevent skin cancer and should be exempt from 20% VAT.

To save Sheffield's democracy, we need a fairer voting system for local elections – before it's too late

A really negative consequence of the 2024 landslide was that it gave us representation in places with huge right-wing majorities and allowed reactionaries within Labour to claim credit for seats that were handed to us entirely due to dynamics internal to the right-wing bloc.

An actually good argument on why you should lower voting age to 12 is that it makes voting into a family event which will instill some civic responsibility at a formative age.

‘Succulent Chinese meal’ speech added to Australia’s National Film and Sound Archive
Jack Karlson’s rallying cry of ‘democracy manifest’ added to national collection of sound recordings that hold historical, cultural and aesthetic significance * Get our breaking news email, free app or daily news podcast Thirty-five years ago, when Jack Karlson was hauled into a police car outside a Chinese restaurant in Queensland, he couldn’t have known his bombastic speech would be watched by millions around the world, become a meme and now, be preserved for ever in Australia’s National Film and Sound Archive. Karlson’s declaration – “Gentlemen, this is democracy manifest! … What is the charge? Eating a meal? A succulent Chinese meal?” – is one of nine pieces of audio that have been added to the NFSA’s Sounds of Australia collection this year, along with a pedestrian crossing signal and Missy Higgins’ 2004 hit Scar. The issue has never particularly been the original daft Sun feature, which (as Greens like to note) was more than a decade ago. It's been the almost entirely unnecessary dishonesty around it, which is much more recent.

It's quite funny to me that just as AI tools seem to be getting genuinely at least fairly useful in programming, their advocates and their allies have done such an excreable job marketing and pushing their use in other fields, to the degree that it feels somewhat taboo to use them at all now.

All the usual suspects dismissing the thousands of extra cyclists in London this week as “only because there’s a tube strike”. Oh so suddenly it is in fact possible for many people to change mode when it is made more convenient than the alternatives.

So much about this story is depressing to me, from the mad understanding of “how the development of racist thought works” from someone who once got this stuff and who should have been allowed a dignified exit, to the way v few official responses even bother to mention racism against GRT people.
