They quoted me in this New Yorker piece about AI today. www.newyorker.com/culture/the-...
“Let’s say there’s a world or time line I exist in where A.I. has been subject to regulation. It is ethical. It has no footprint environmentally,” the novelist Jeff VanderMeer, a prominent critic of A.I., told me over the phone. “With those guardrails in place, would I read an A.I. book? All I can say is no. And the reason is, in part, because I want to read something coming from a particular mind.” Using A.I., he said, “feels like a betrayal of the whole point of why you’re a writer.”

They are associated with Epstein. Robert Mueller didn't care that children were being raped. Have you noticed the die-hard DOJ defenders ignored Epstein for TEN YEARS while defending Mueller/Garland? And now they suddenly care and are contacting victims? They are doing damage control for the DOJ.

Often good work originally published without a paywall is retroactively paywalled years later -- including the bulk of articles needed to understand the last fifteen years, much of which is digital-native content.

Also a corporation can afford to end the paywall. If I can afford to never paywall as a lone writer in Missouri, a multimillion or billion dollar enterprise can. My sympathies are with the independent writers who paywall to pay bills but sometimes end up having their best work hidden as a result.

On that note, I appreciate the BlueSky renegades who stood up for me against the typical BlueSky sadist who falsely accused me of paywalling my articles -- including a piece on my father's cancer -- and then mocked his death. My 2025 article noted the soullessness of this platform. Nothing changed.

Yes on The Wire. But one thing that's struck me is the lack of online buzz for TV. I watch a lot of TV and I'm tracked involuntarily by algorithms. They know what I like. But I *never* get TV shows advertised to me -- including ones whose past seasons I watched. Seems like big tech wants TV gone.

Yes, it happens over and over! And it happened for decades before the presidency. The crime syndicate predated the presidency. It was an overt danger that required complicity within the government to succeed; that Trump was even allowed to run is the biggest reveal. So yeah, it's everything at once.

If we let the current crop of "AI" people stay in charge, we are not gonna make it; not because of "superintelligent AI," but because of what the MIT study terms "cognitive surrender": offloading and deterioration of critical skills. And it increasingly feels like that's exactly what they want.
