Electoral politics is catharsis. A way to pretend that all of this is just a matter of winning enough seats and it will all go away. And, meanwhile, it incentivizes you to be principle-less and approach it from a "pragmatic" standpoint that makes politics as an actual struggle for power a sport.

It's disgusting the way people look past someone refusing to stand up for trans people or women or people of color or immigrants or victims of genocide. It is an ethical and moral line and once you stand on the wrong side you have revealed yourself to either be a coward or undeserving of power.
