Sure but as chatbot use grows, so does hostility towards AI. People rightly separate searching stuff on GPT from having to use AI at work and threatened job replacement. Those are the much more important structural and political questions.

A Bentley University-Gallup survey finds that Americans are more familiar with AI but more cautious about businesses' use of AI and its effect on jobs.

I would never say the left is doing anything perfectly but it seems to me it is doing a decent job of capturing general sentiment of people who hate AI being forced on them at work and despise data centers. I don’t know what a more nuanced take or whatever gains us.

This is so on 🎯. AI (as it’s being used by the majority of people) is taking away the development of their minds. It’s become their substitute synthetic mind, while their own mind atrophies. It’s an addictive electronic drug of the highest potency.

Russia's five-hospital quarantine, FSB involvement, and reported hazmat use in response to the death of a single researcher at a weapons-lineage Irkutsk lab are inconsistent with a lab-acquired plague infection, which would have been treated with prophylactic antibiotics.
1/4

Kevin Esvelt ® @kesvelt 2h g
Russian authorities have surely sequenced the Irkutsk pathogen, but refuse to identify it.
Physical lockdown indicates it cannot be controlled with
prophylactic antibiotics, implying engineered pan-resistance or that it isn't plague at all.

2/4Kevin Esvelt ® @kesvelt • 2h
None of this means the Irkutsk pathogen will cause a pandemic.
But the response clearly indicates that Russia believes an epidemic is possible - and that the responsible agent is likely a pandemic weapon or otherwise embarrassing for the government.
3/4

Kevin Esvelt @ @kesvelt •2h
Vaccines will be ineffective against competently designed pandemic weapons. Russia may not be competent yet, but future Al will democratize competence.
We should stockpile pandemic-proof PPE and install germicidal far-UV and glycol misters in public spaces.

Castration anxiety broadly defined means fear of emasculation, which seems to track with the observable psychosexual dynamics. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castrat...
Castration anxiety can also refer to being castrated symbolically. In the metaphorical sense, castration anxiety refers to the idea of feeling or being insignificant; there is a need to keep one's self from being dominated; whether it be socially or in a relationship.181 Symbolic
castration anxiety refers to the fear of being degraded, dominated or made insignificant, usually an irrational fear where the person will go to extreme lengths to save their pride and/or perceive trivial things as being degrading making their anxiety restrictive and sometimes damaging.
This can also tie in with literal
castration anxiety in fearing the loss of virility or sexual dominance.

The primary objective of journalism is supposed to be telling the truth. It is a DECISION on the part of USA Today to know that new details have emerged about this case and to refuse to update an old story that is still circulating and still shaming Jane Doe.

Pressure needs to be put on the Democratic establishment to concentrate their efforts on Trump and the Republicans, not the DSA. Of course, they won't do that because fascism doesn't threaten their capital, but socialism does.
Text reads: "If the US were to have free and fair elections, I think the Democrats would do well: not because they are liked, but because the GOP is loathed. There is genuine excitement around Democratic candidates like Abdul El-Sayed. Unfortunately, those candidates are targeted by both the GOP and the Democratic establishment. I don’t know why half our election coverage seems to be about Twitch streamer Hasan Piker. This is a sign of a collapsed media and a political infrastructure hijacked by outside interests. That said, I do think Americans are invested in making their country a better place. I’m impressed by the steady protests and acts of solidarity with the vulnerable. I think these will continue no matter what the midterms bring."

They quoted me in this New Yorker piece about AI today. www.newyorker.com/culture/the-...
“Let’s say there’s a world or time line I exist in where A.I. has been subject to regulation. It is ethical. It has no footprint environmentally,” the novelist Jeff VanderMeer, a prominent critic of A.I., told me over the phone. “With those guardrails in place, would I read an A.I. book? All I can say is no. And the reason is, in part, because I want to read something coming from a particular mind.” Using A.I., he said, “feels like a betrayal of the whole point of why you’re a writer.”

Also a corporation can afford to end the paywall. If I can afford to never paywall as a lone writer in Missouri, a multimillion or billion dollar enterprise can. My sympathies are with the independent writers who paywall to pay bills but sometimes end up having their best work hidden as a result.
