I prefer to take everyone at their word, to believe they are who they say they are and don’t have a secret, inner, “higher” self awaiting guidance. If someone reveals themself as my enemy I don’t try to convince them that they’re not. I work to undermine their ability to act from that position.

Here’s the full quote I provided on Friday, not Saturday, which is falsely reported in the article for some reason. Not sure why they omitted to print the second part.
"I'm not surprised the Metro Chamber is targeting me, because my office is uniquely equipped to defend popular programs like Preschool for All from their attacks and has been very successful at it. I was wondering if this PAC would ever come into campaign finance compliance or properly register the websites they post on their billboards"

Don't want to spend your life stuck in traffic congestion? Turns out, the best way to prevent traffic congestion is to stop building billions of dollars of miles of freeway and instead invest in transit.
This matters because this is an important lesson, a potential teachable moment for all of us, about how the transportation system works. Expanding highways in urban areas results in what is called “induced travel”–the greater supply of road capacity prompts people to take more and longer trips than they would otherwise. That’s why widening roads to solve congestion never works–roads, no matter how wide, fill up and become congested, like Houston’s 23-lane wide Katy Freeway which actually is slower after its most recent expansion than it was before. This is what economists now call the “fundamental law of road congestion.” And this fundamental law also works in reverse: take away some of the capacity, and as everyone of these supposed Carmaggedon’s shows, traffic evaporates. Once we understand that traffic responds to supply, we can recognize we can limit traffic by not building so much capacity.

lathe of heaven are real ones (literally) www.404media.co/spotify-ai-m...
“I just listened to the song. It’s appalling. The fact that you were able to do that is insane,” Allison, Lather of Heaven’s vocalist, told me. “The only thing smaller musicians like us have at the end of the day is recognition for the results of our work — being able to enjoy the process of creating something and putting it out into the world knowing it is distinctly a product of our own hands is essentially one of the last driving forces behind making music. It’s hard enough putting this much time and effort into the band as it is. All the members of LoH essentially tailor our lifestyles around having the time to tour, write records and record. And we do it knowing we will likely not see much money in return. The fact that someone could ruin our reputation by dropping this cringe garbage under our name is insanely disheartening and speaks volumes about distribution and streaming services that allow this to happen.”

NEW single up on bandcamp + youtube today. hits streamers on friday. recorded+mixed by @isobel.bsky.social thank you for your attention to this matter faithvoid.bandcamp.com
"A Cruel Angel's Dissertation Defense" was the first new song we wrote after recording Weird Chills, like immediately after; the verse melody popped into Ivy's head as we exited Artifact Audio on the last day of tracking. Ivy didn't know if it was a FAITH/VOID song, it seemed like it might belong to a more power-pop-ish side project. then, at our first practice after recording, Tim came up with a riff that worked perfectly for it. the lyrics are a patchwork; the choruses are unused fragments from "New Flesh Instructions," the verses are from a more conspiratorial song Ivy's been writing for a few years. together they describe what it's like when the people you're politically aligned with are performative clowns, while feeling annoyed at yourself for caring about how corny people are when the world's ending. (every FAITH/VOID song is about an apocalypse, either personal or general.) we recorded it with Isobel Fox in November of last year, along with the rest of our new EP No Help Is Coming, and Mattie thought her new synthesizer would sound cool on it, which added a brand new texture to our sound. we're really proud of how it came out, and we hope you like itthe angel lilith from evangelion but they've got a little mortarboard. congratulations lilith!

A consistent pitch by the makers of ai wearables is that they solve the problem of getting to know your child. www.businessinsider.com/parents-brea...
Molly, who runs a startup to help parents book activities for kids, is willing to use AI for logistics, like meal planning or sorting through her email to surface the most important messages from their daughter's school. Sean, who works in tech sales, wants to go further. He has his eyes on Omi necklace, an AI wearable that listens in on your day and includes a feature called Parent Whisperer. It records and analyzes interactions between parent and child, logging things like school assignments and supplies to order. The device also picks up on tone, alerting parents when their kid may be unhappy — registering everything from "from toddler tantrums to teenage mood swings," per its ad copy — and offering "expert-backed guidance" on how to respond.

"A bunch of people would rather post on Race War Now Dot Swastika rather than Bluesky because you keep making fun of their imaginary computer friend" is a RESOUNDING endorsement for the concept of hostility.
Part of a thread from some bluecheck:
Multiple people I know have told me that they love the idea of Bluesky, and want it to succeed, but have abandoned it for X because the use agentic tools in their work and find them incredibly useful, and feel that any mention of their usage here leads to hate and ridicule.

I wouldn't bring this up if it was just one person, but it was multiple people since the beginning of August who mentioned in passing something to the effect of either "I'd spend more time on Bluesky if people weren't so anti-AI" *or* "As much as I hate to be there all the useful AI talk is on X."

I'm not saying it's anyone's responsibility to praise AI usage. I agree with much of the criticism of the tool. But for many, many people, it is a useful tech (I have talked about the ways I find it extraordinarily useful, only to have people here mock me, insisting my lived experience is a lie).

I am just noting that for all the people here who say that people should get off X and spend more time here, the reason I keep hearing from people in various circles who would *like* to do that, but don't, is the vociferous belief of many here that there are no possible positive uses of AI.
